Who in the world is writing this story?

It’s all so goofy and childish. WoW has always had fun humor tied into it, but DF as a whole feels like way too much. I know the game is rated teen but let’s be real, majority of us are likely adults, and most teens are playing other stuff way more graphic than this. Also don’t come in here with some, “But the dead bodies!” nonsense, a sleeping NPC labeled “corpse” isn’t intense or narratively engrossing either. The game doesn’t need to become DOOM or anything, but sheesh, a little nuance and some mature narrative go a long way.

Yes, BFA and SL had their issues, but at least for they had their moments as well. BFA, Tyrande throwing that orc’s head into the pool was gnarly. So was Saurfang’s cinematics, especially Old Soldier. Then with SL, again Tyrande taking the crown to behead Nathanos (would’ve been better if we could’ve actually seen it though). DF so far has just been feeling like some Disney movie. The over-the-top voice acting, quips, friendship speeches make me feel as if I’ll be barfing rainbows soon enough. We need some intensity in this expansion and the primalists / incarnates just don’t deliver.

I get that WoW’s story has never really been a narrative masterpiece. However, it was good at balancing its darker elements with its more cartoonish aesthetic. Now? It’s just a full-blown cartoon. Giggly mole people, big evil dragon roaring about destroying everything, friendly dragons talking about how we’ll use the power of friendship and love to stop him. Please… at least try to be a little interesting?

Do you play the game with blinders on? One of the most recent cinematcs showed an incarnate wave his hand and burn a centaur to a pile of smoldering ash. Then later that same incarnate burns the mole people village and kills a bunch of them.

I’m convinced the people who complain about WoW being too PG these days pay zero attention to what is actually going on around them.

The whole DF = Disney narrative is stupid and needs to go away.

That doesn’t count because reasons.

Oh yes, I forgot the OP wants to actually see things like beheadings, probably in Zach Snyder slow motion, because we’re all “adults” here.

It’s far cry to the kind of carnage we saw in BFA.

Warcraft tends to lose its flavor when the faction conflict dies off if you ask me.

There are still some darker elements (no pun intended), but I do feel they have shifted slightly over the years, though, not terribly so.

I just wish I could have seen the upside down sinners before they closed it off.

It just seems like you want violence for the sake of violence.

Do you have a particular reason why you want a darker tone?

The cannibal trolls and questing inside a dismembered giant turtle made more of an impact on me than the faction conflict stuff, but I see your point.

It was never open. The only way to see it was to glitch through a wall.

I agree it did get a bit too goofy and soft. Id prefer some wotlk vibes where we feel like theres a danger and it doesnt feel like im in a 7 year olds disney theme park.

Like everyone said there some dark stuff but it’s all about themes.

During BFA each faction was supposed to look like monsters to the other, during SL you are suppose to hate sylv and those xpacs had heavy themes.

DF for all the sad is also a very happy thing for the dragons, you can see this in the cinematic even tho there is a storm the theme is going back home they are happy.
Furthermore while the primalist are the antagonist blizz want them to be somewhat relatable and tragic, same with the dracthyr.

Ah, kk… I wasn’t sure.

I guess I became a cynical old man the moment I stopped being impressed by tough-guys whining that things are too childish.

Still 99999999999 times better, than Shadowlands.

By miles.
Leagues.
Worlds.
Galaxies.
Universes.
— Y’know what, not even in multiversal standards could I express how far better Dragonflight is than Shadowlands.

Soft disagree?

This patch has seen better writing than most of Dragon Flight. The stand out being the Dragonscale Expedition that had run afoul of the Djaradin and lost their warrior.

You share a somber little meal, mourn the dead and bolster their spirits. Talking with each remember of the party reveals a pretty full and fleshed out character. Even Rupert; an earth elemental wearing a top hat and monocle previously used exclusively as a gag, has a frank and sober conversation with you.

It’s as close to being an RPG as Warcraft has ever been.

It’s a shift from the heaviness of all previous tones where it was high stakes all the time. This one has it but it doesn’t really feel immediate lol. I like it since you get tired of being “the one”, you’re more like an adventurer. Though I’ve played Classic add I do prefer the writing way more than here and the voices. They can’t get Jamaican voices for crap lol.

Is it great? Meh. I’m more curious what happened to Anduin. Like did they run out of stuff for him or…?

Yeah, but they talked about their feelings. Therefore, Disney™.

I guess so. I’ll leave my warrior badge on your desk on my way out, I should have seen that earlier. :pensive:

I love dragonflight story tbh

I think our newfound friends who we slaughter enemies to help would realistically be asking us to help clean up the piles of rotting corpses that are bringing a pestilence to their people.

Pretty sure this is what the OP meant. There’s viewable violence and destruction but the path to it is riddled with positivity content. It’s all ooey gooey, friendship and family, we’ll get it done type stuff. That’s a first for WoW without it being an utter mockery of itself.

Even Kalecgos is like some “Ugh, I don’t know…,” and “But how can I be sure?” and so on and so forth. That’s not to say all characters are without backbones, it’s just that the ones without are prominent. Obnoxiously so.

Ebyssian sitting aside for 3 million years and just now trying to be so hyper apologetic for his past. It’s like WoW is trying to do redemption arks “better”. He acts like a teenager. Do adult dragons never mature because life is so easy for them?

Dare I say this story is an insult to adult-grade writing. It’s teen grade at best and that’s a mockery to good teen fantasy. No offense to anyone who likes the current story. It’s just not built for adults and there’s nothing wrong with that.
