Meme specs are fun, period. But I think I failed to be completely clear with my point.
I should provide the context that our guild enjoys clearing content, the faster the better, but we won’t sacrifice player enjoyment in the pursuit of knocking a few minutes off our clear time. On the other side of that coin, we won’t allow a single member’s desired play style overly devalue the effort and work 39 other people put into the make the team a success.
We neatly avoid both extremes by having an application-base recruitment process, which for the most part, is far more concerned with who you are as a person than how well you push buttons on a team. Which is why of the original team we recruited, we’ve only lost a few raid team members and all of those were to circumstances well beyond the game (having a kid, getting deployed to Germany, etc.)
My original point stills stands that you can play a meme spec, but it requires that you find a team that enjoys playing with you first and foremost.
Not a correct comparison. The ret pally doesn’t just go stand in a corner after 25% of the fight. They’re active throughout the whole fight just as much as you are. If you want to blame someone for their output not being as much as yours, you can blame the game designers. You can’t expect people to only play meta classes. Its just unrealistic to ask that of everyone, and your precious game would die. If everyone only played classes where more than one spec was accepted, people would only play warrior/mage/priest. Heckuva game that would be. It might last 6 months…
People never care about the longevity of MMOs, and only about what gets them gear this week.
I raid as moonkin my parses aren’t amazing, but my guild likes having a laser chicken around. We’ve had no issues clearing MC/BWL. I will say I wish our itemization was better I can’t wait for bloodvine set (+%hit).
I don’t. There are no doubt plenty of people who just play what they enjoy regardless of how good it is.
However, you can’t expect me to look at the fact they played a class that objectively does worse and expect me to view their contribution as somehow equal to someone who did 2-4x their damage.
Except even the meta requires at least one of every class.
This whole “only play Warrior/Mage/Priest” argument that anti-min/max folks spew all the time is just nonsense.
Just to be clear, you think me pointing out that Ret does lower DPS and choosing not to invite one to my raid is bad for the longevity of the game?
I believe this individual has put carried and viable in quotation marks because it is fairly debatable. I believe all the content is 20 mannable with correct coordination. Therefore, a very coordinated team could have 20 real specs and 20 meme specs and still succeed. The reason a lot of people view meme specs as bad is because they are simply not as good as other classes/specs at dealing damage and their utility often does not make up for the lack of dps, by noone’s fault but the game developers.
TLDR: Meme specs are objectively worse and you should make sure you find a group of individuals who are okay with you speccing that way. Hope this helps anyone new to Classic
<- shaman tank. Can MT Onyxia and most bosses in MC fine. Rag is tough just because of mitigation. I can also OT in BWL for the loot pinatas / wing buffet threat swaps
