I was having a discussion with a buddy of mine about Rogues, and how he quit playing his because his guild forced him to play Combat in order to raid (a spec he apparently hates).
On my server I happen to see a relatively good amount of “meme specs”. Not a ton mind you, but I’ve definitely seen my share of raid geared Boomkin, Rets, Ferals, etc.
It got me wondering how many of you out there legitimately raid with a “meme spec”. MC of course, but even more interested in who is doing it within BWL.
What’s your experience been like?

I raid as a boomkin. The experience is fine, most guilds on my server have boomkins but it’s usually 1 per raid.
Most people understand I’m there to buff the locks and mages, so my dps is just frosting. I’ve never had issues at all.

He hates combat and he rolled a Rogue in classic?
What does he play? Assassination? Sub ?
Either way, if you arent combat spec as a Rogue in a raid, you are doing about the same dps as a low tank.
Meaning; YOU ARE NOT PULLING YOU’RE OWN WEIGHT. You are being carried.
If you walk into a raid, and all 40 people have that mentality… Good look going past Molten Core.
If you’re friend wants to raid as a Rogue, he will have to go combat, or im sure the other rogues who are 3 and 4x’ing his damage will be getting loot priority.

My partner I leveled with raids as feral and enjoys the heck out of it. Guild is chill and we have others playing “meme” specs. It’s no big thing. We aren’t a fast track progression guild and have only 2/8 in BWL but we’re having fun.
edit sorry for secondhand info but I was a goodhoof and switched to resto at 60 to raid as a shaman tho I am still deep resto with mana tide and get grouped with healers…sometimes

Meme specs are just that.
As for your friend. What does he do. Gets carried? This content has 1 spec for everyone. Only thing that changes is rogues and warriors based on weapons. What a joke. Hope he enjoys retail.

I’m not using a meme spec but I’m going to be healing using 5 piece T2 going forward.
Paladin T2 is pretty much a meme.

I already said he doesn’t play Rogue because he didn’t want to be combat. He rerolled and raids as a Hunter
Sorry to hear that if he enjoyed the rogue spec he was playing prior to being asked to play combat.

Classic isn’t a game where you get to play a spec because it’s fun or you enjoy it for raiding. The gaps are much too massive.

It seems odd still that a feral needs to farm a bag full of level 34(?) weapons to be considered optimal but it is what it is. He has fun with it, enjoys playing kitty and bear OT with people we have known and raided with since EQ.
Not going for world firsts or speed runs. We are having fun.

I main raid as a boomkin, I alt raid as a ret paladin, and I late night raid as a rogue.
Never had any problems. Each of our raids has our resident Ret, feral druid(s) and one boomkin each. Zero problems clearing molten core, and we almost got to. 1.5 hour BWL. Heck I got to raid for 3-4 weeks as hemo while I farmed arcane crystals for the guild.
Each of us does enough damage to not be “carried” since we do enough to pre-submerge rag, we kill Vael in 45 or so, etc. anyone who does the math would switch away from this “viable” terminology, or acknowledge that they are just being elitist.
Our only problems have always been mechanic screw ups or people doing too much DPS. In those situations the “meme” specs have never been what has been holding us back.

Seriously, so long as your spec isn’t 21/21/21, a semi-casual guild should be fine with however you want to meme.
However, if you’re raiding as a pvp spec just to avoid the cost of respecs every week, you might want to have a chat with the raid leader and see what you can do.
I raid as feral and am top 5 in DPS in most every fight. Farming pummelers every week is cumbersome, but its fun to play something unique and different.

I don’t think feral is considered a meme spec these days to anyone that is actually informed. Some people may still frown upon cat dps but with power shifting and a MCP they can actually put out more than enough dps for any current and soon to come classic content, not to mention still bringing some solid utility.

This is honestly the kind of guild I’d like to have here. During retail my guild barely skimmed by in MC, and we never made it into BWL, but it was crazy fun just doing it with friends and playing whatever spec we enjoyed.
I haven’t yet raided on classic, because i really just don’t like all the min/maxing, “you’re being carried” mentality. MMO’s are supposed to be social and fun. I don’t want to feel like I’m in the military while playing a video game lol

We have 2 shadow priests, a boomkin, a feral druid tank (ok, maybe that one’s not a meme) and a ret pally all in one raid.
Considering Sulfuras is a vanity item, if eye drops we’re seriously considering giving it to the boomkin for the luls, if not, the ret pally.

Well forge Paladin k server did 95 parse in t2heal as prot. So.,…
Have a boomkin and ret paladin in our guild and I raid as shadow dps (vs vuln spec). My guild is pretty awesome in my opinion.

I raided seal fate till our boss fights become sub 2m.
I prefer that spec, but it doesn’t kill me to play combat for the sake of smooth raids.
