Who else got their profession at a very early level?

I got mining for my warrior at level 3. Got my mining for my hunter at level 4. Got my engineering for him at level 5. So anyone got their profession’s at an early level?

Picked up skinning and herbalism as soon as I got to Ironforge, just have them to make money as I level, no clue what professions I want to pursue once I’m not poor anymore.

Mage picked up tailoring and enchanting level 6. My hunter will have mining and engineering when he hits 10 and travels across the map.

its not bad to start early at all, just remember that once you hit 150, you most likely will need a training book to get further.
The book will prob be around 1g and halfway around the world too :3

i glanced at ah to look at mats prices before picking profs

every mat seemed to be selling at just a bit above vendor price so unless i was farming really really hard it didnt seem great

plus, with extremely limited bag and bank space i couldnt just sit on mats until ah prices go up a bit

so i ended up taking herbalism and alchemy

having pots (the minor troll elixir, minor defense, and health pots) really do help a lot in the early going

not having a buff (though underwater breathing is available now) i can open trade and hand out some pots to that nice buffer at the zeppelin stop

cooking, fishing, and first aid i always get asap and i like leveling all of these in any expansion but in classic it just feels more appropriate to be totally self sufficient as no one really has any gold to buy everything they need

Thanks for verifying a wowhead classic guide about the levels where you can get various professions. It showed gathering professions available at lower levels than crafting professions and people told me wowhead was on crack. I was so inefficient and zigzaggy I didn’t get to a profession trainer until level 5 anyway. But the levels are likely still staggered higher up too. Provided anyone can get within 25 of the max of their current level to even notice. (Maybe fishermen and skinners or people whose guilds funnel things to them.)

Also I took skinning and leatherworking mostly to just make my own gear and armor kits. I’m in the Barrens now and the stuff I made for myself is a little better than stuff selling or dropping around open world. Probably a 50/50 chance dungeons RFC and WC will have something to upgrade my gear. (I did buy a belt off a guy slightly better than what I could make, and a guildy gave ,e a moce staff I think she got from a dungeon.)

I have alch/herb at almost 200 now, also got the secondary profs at 125+

I got so distracted by leveling them that I could be level 30 by now if I hadn’t bothered

I took skinning and leatherworking so I could make my own armor and armor kits. The light leather armor kits are +8 armor you can put on leg, feet, chest, and hands. I have medium leather armor kit available that’s +16 armor on leg feet chest and hands but scraping up leather again for that now. (Just used all my mats makng myself some new armor that’s a little better than what drops on Barrens right now.)

Our guildies are frequently linking greens we find in guild chat to give away too. Like, 'anyone need this [War Torn Shield of Strength] or [Beaded Ceremonial Britches]? And some goes, ‘me1’. I mail them the item +4 armor kits. +32 armor practically like double armor for clothies under level 10.
Also there’s a kodo hide bag recipe that can be obtained from leatherworking people on Thunder Bluff. You do a quest to get some light kodo leather for a lady and she’ll give you the recipe. People chasing kodos all around Thunder Bluff and wolves and cougars chasing them. (I can confirm if you attack the kodo in front, the other kodos come down on you like a ton of bricks. :))

I got both of mine but i havent even started one yet. Only leveling skinning for now. Can’t waste time on professions.

Picked up Tailoring and enchanting to get my wands early, been making a good amount of money on bags from the tailoring.

I pick up skinning as soon as I see a trainer on any character, stock up on leather for whoever I do LW with. Sometimes grab herbal or mining too, but don’t go out of my way for those.

how are you doing on inventory/bank space?

Got tailor 110 / skinner 130ish on my eventual Tailor / Disenchanter.

Character is lvl 18 and wool bags are already yellow for skill point upgrade before I have got enough wool to make all four of my own bags. Lots of free crafting of linen bags first day and wool bags second day.

Have not bothered much with AH yet as listing fees are still significant.

amen to this. I’ve put professions on all my toons that i plan to level. SOme I’ll only level to 35 like my lock, as I have him as tailor and enchanter. my bank alt will do something like engineering. my main hunter will do skinning and leatherwork. i want professions across the board so I don’t have to depend on anyone and can make all the money i need over time. things are valuable here and that is one reason I wanted to switch to classic.

I picked up tailoring.

So far, bags are the only useful things I make. But they are VERY useful.

I only have one main profession which is skinning but I picked up cooking fishing and first aid.

Skinning and First aid are at 225 and Cooking and Fishing not too far behind.

I plan to get herbalism and mining at 5. Start early on getting that gold!

Aside from skinning, there’s not really a point to picking up your professions before level 5. There are no Ore veins, Herbs or Green items that drop in the starting areas: Northshire, Anvilmar etc. So you can’t level them at all until you reach the second town which is where the real zones open up.

But yes, I picked up Mining and Engineering as soon as I had the money in Kharanos which was at level 5.

Ahhhh, the difference between Vanilla, and Classic, is simpliest said, I know what’s coming. IF I KNEW back then, what I know now, applies.

Fishing and Cooking work together well. I intend to level Cooking, via fish, mainly just vendering the “meat” mats. That lets me pick and chose which recipes to buy, can’t buy everything.

Fish, is a direct time spent value earned. while meat is a random drop.

And this is Classic, you gotta be in the level appropriate zone. This isn’t Pandaria, where a level 0 fisherman can catch fish from a node. “The fish got away” is back.

First Aid, well, I haven’t decided, but I may just pass. It’s only useful to me “in combat” and that just doesn’t seem that often, where I can’t get out of combat and eat.

Just some thoughts.

I did not know about needing a book to train further, thanks for that. I’ll check some guides for specifics.

Guildie also says to remember to keep certain trash items to turn in at darkmoon faire in phase 3. Guildie posted this list in discord that I couldn’t easily find with google.

Small Furry Paws – Cats in The Barrens and Darkshore
Torn Bear Pelt – Bears in Ashenvale and Hillsbrad Foothills
Soft Bushy Tail – Coyotes in Badlands and Scarlet Monastery
Vibrant Plume – Harpies in Thousand Needles and Rocs in Tanaris
Glowing Scorpid Blood – Scorpids in Badlands and Silithus
Evil Bat Eye – Bats in Plaguelands and high level dungeons
