Has Whitemane had this many players since the start of SOD or did it just get an influx a month or so ago? I know era was poppin pre sod.

Era experienced a huge resurgence around the time WotLK Classic released, which was well before SoD. The population has gone up a bit since then and has been very stable.

Whitemane been pretty stable now since around Ulduar raid release in wotlkc.

This, and its been really very well populated since. There are days and times when the population in the world is a little lower or a little more but overall feel if you average across say a week or two is nice and stable and honestly really nice.
The player base is the least toxic of any community in wow that I have ever experienced short of OG Vanilla, so just check the baggage at the door come on down and have a great time!
