Which WoW Youtuber best reflects the fandom?

I’ve been thinking of some of the big WoW Youtubers, and wondering about their content and popularity. Apart from streamers, some of the biggest WoW youtubers are ones like Bellular, Nobbel87 and Nixxiom.

Those three and more have given takes on the WoW community and the lore, including their speculations. For my part, I like a range of Youtubers and of them I’d pick Nixxiom if I had to pick a favorite.

Who do you think best represents the WoW fanbase as a whole or their desires?

None of them. Everyone has their own opinions, ideals, ways of playing the game, what’s important to them, etc. We aren’t mindless sheeple who all think the same and feel the same. This is an MMO. It’s got vastly different communities within it with vastly different thoughts.

I really like Nobbel and he was on my mind before I saw you mentioned him. He is primarily lore and story, but he appears to play the game and get current achievements (eg raids/dungeons) but also evokes a very relaxed, chill mood. His aim is understanding the story we have and making connections where they might be obscured.

And then top it off with well-calculated, creative speculation

I have no “favorites”, however, I’d split it between Bellular & Asmongold if you’re asking who I believe represents the WoW playerbase and their typical ideals most accurately. The most common attitude tropes per say.

Bellular tends to be good at representing imo the casual WoW players who are into multiple facets of the game. The ones who like to mingle in PVP, PVE, general updates, and perhaps even keep up with the lore somewhat. Then there’s Asmongold, who represents the toxic boomer side of the fanbase. The ones who only care about min/maxxing, trolling other players, and don’t know who Khadgar is after playing the game for over a decade. The side of the playerbase who dwell on the good ol days of classic, and wish they were kids in highschool again etc.

i only know of HazelNutty n Asmongold n they only reflect themselves as does every other player i run into.

This right here is what’s wrong with this forum.

Bellular does have the most subscribers of the ones I named. Maybe he’s the most popular of them due to being a jack-of-all-trades; he doesn’t have Nobbel’s lore depth or Nixxiom’s humor but he has a bit of everything.

You might be onto something with Asmongold, who has even more subscribers. Though he was a kid in the 90’s, when the trends were “EX-TREME!” and “Cool people rebel!”, so I’m not sure he fits the definition of boomer.

Yeah, for the most part as said I don’t really have favorites. I’m just choosing which I believe represents the attitudes I’ve seen prevalent throughout the WoW playerbase best. Most casual players remind me of Bellular vibes; the guys who enjoy multiple aspects of the game and tend to somewhat keep up with the lore. The other crowd I feel is most prevalent are the Asmongold style players. Not boomers, but they have that “everything new sucks” mentality, and always obsess over the past and how things were better back then no matter what. They also for some reason don’t tend to know the lore really well lol, and care more about player power over anything else.

At least, that’s what I’ve seen most from the playerbase in my experience.

Thanks for your perspective. I had a feeling the ones you named would rank up there (wasn’t sure whether to count Asmongold).

Well Bellular & Asmongold sure represent the negative echo chamber in the forums which they farm for clicks. It’s made them tons of money in advertising.

There was a time when Bllular was pretty good and would do a lot of “how to” videos but now he just mocks the devs for easy money.

For me it’s SignsOfKelani. He has the best info and the best advice. Hazelnuttygames seems really good but she’s way to advanced for a casual player like me.

As for who best represents the player base, it’s impossible to tell. We can see who gets the most clicks but we can’t see who is getting clicks from the same people over and over and who gets clicks from the largest number of players.

imo Bellular went from one extreme to the other. He went from shilling the devs to mocking them around the time of Shadowlands and the lawsuit (I remember him pushing Legion - especially where Illidan is concerned - and BfA hard. iirc in a video he was walking on eggshells trying to downplay how bad N’Zoth’s death cinematic was).

Does Hazelnutty do lore and meta coverage? She seems good, but I’ve only seen her gameplay videos.

That is an excellent point. If only there was a way to figure this out.

Oh yeah, tbh, if I HAD to choose a favorite, mine is Nobbel hands down. That’s because I love the lore of the game and always have. However, I don’t think he represents the playerbase well because many players I’ve come across personally don’t care about WoW lore as much anymore. However, there are definitely YouTubers out there who’d I’d say easily bring a healthier more positive mindset to the game than Bellular and Asmongold 1000x. As you said SignsofKelani is a positive influence, Hazelnutty etc.

Sadly, I’m just choosing Bellular and Asmongold as the two creators who I think remind me of the common everyday WoW player the most.

I don’t know what game you’re playing to see half the playerbase acting like Asmon fans, but it absolutely isn’t retail.

Idk, I’d question what game you’re playing if you haven’t run into a lot of Asmon fans in the playerbase. He is the most popular WoW youtuber for a reason lmfao.

I’m on Moon Guard, WrA, Emerald Dream and my smaller servers. I don’t run into toxicity, harassment and ignorance on that level at all.

It’s clickbait trash. Nowhere does that mean people act like him or agree with him.

Dang, I need to figure out what times you log into MG to find a blissfully pure trade chat without any form of ignorance at all. I mean, I’m glad your experience has been peaches and rainbows in WoW but if you truly believe him being the most popular WoW YouTuber means he has no influence or reflection within the WoW playerbase at all, I won’t stop you. I’ve just seen a completely different reality haha.

That’s good.

While I agree with you, he is still popular. Any idea why?

You’re basing an entire community off of some trade chat trolling?

It’s sad to me that people think this means everyone is an Asmon fan.

I have groups of friends who watch him just to make fun of him.

Trash entertainment is not indicative of how a community is represented or their desires.

I think that Hazel Nut Gamer makes good YouTube videos, where she fairly covers both sides of whichever issues are relevant, as well as stating pros and cons that the audience may be coming up with. So I would probably vote for her as the one who best represents everyone’s opinions; she discusses what people are thinking even if she doesn’t necessarily agree. I respect this.

Where did I say anything about representing an entire community? I’m only saying from my perspective, I’ve most definitely seen a lot of Asmon fans (which is fine) and players who tend to carry his trolling antics, colorful language, and other “retail sucks” beliefs with them throughout the game. So that’s why I find it to be common. If you haven’t seen any such behavior commonly then Idk, good for you I guess. It’s good you’ve only seen the positive and uplifting WoW players in your experience.
