Which WoW expansion had your favorite theme?

Without taking gameplay into account, good or bad, which WoW expansion had the best theme in your opinion?

For me it was Legion, taking the fight to the Burning Legion and seeing the culmination of everything that had been set up since Warcraft 1 to 3 was great.

Cataclysm for me. The world changed and nearly fell to ruin at the hands of one mighty foe. I suppose that could be said for most threats we’ve faced, but watching Deathwing soar through Azeroth and lay waste to landscapes was awesome.

Burning Crusade.

It’s impossible to replicate the feeling after all these years, I’ve seen too much. But the first time I stepped through the Dark Portal and found myself in an alien hellscape, under siege by demons, and then took a gryphon to honor hold, seeing that there was no ocean beneath me, but just the void of space, I was hooked. The landscapes were weird, there was a forest of giant mushrooms, there was a mountain range of jagged spikes unlike anything on Azeroth, with dragons impaled on those spikes by giants. There was a zone being ripped apart by void magics, with space ship dungeons in it, and bubbles of preserved ecospheres operated and defended by energy beings dressed up as mummies. The monsters were new and exciting, even the “normal” animals like Talbuk were unique and alien from what I was used to. I felt like I was exploring a whole new world.

BFA for Drustvar alone. I wish we had more spooky woods/witchy magic.

The Burning Crusade, easily.

Stepping through the Dark Portal and seeing firsthand, that this fractured world was barely hanging on, and immediately realizing this landscape was extremely different.

Hellfire shows what happens when demons ultimately win, lol. A wasteland of a zone, but in the best ways.

Trails of fel and nether energy in the sky.

Something about medieval in space, I instantly fell in love with it.

WoW is almost 19 years old, and we still have nothing close to Netherstorm in terms of zones.

I’m playing a Draenei, and this tabard I’m wearing was a TBC launch item.

I’m never taking it off.

TBC super-fan, through and through.

I agree with legion.

Probably Mists.

I actually unsubbed at the end of Cata and refused to play MoP, then later finally gave it a try and thought it was the best thing ever. I absolutely loved Mists.

Bring back the kazoos Blizzard!

That is a solid transmog for the new red skin. Very nice look 10/10.

WoD. I have never been more excited for an expansion. It looked amazing. It should have been amazing. Aside from a fantastic leveling experience they just completely squandered it.

MoP. I like Legion and Dragonflight.

Also including Revendreth. Cuz while Shadowlands was handled poorly, Revendreth was a gem hidden under it

Mists of Pandaria. It was nice to have a mostly serene zone vibe.

It was pandaria for years and years. Then legion came out.

Wrath by far, TBC next. The rest a very very distant 3rd.

On paper it was Shadowlands, without the terrible execution.

MoP, with Cata and Wotlk close behind.

I was so excited for WoD. Burning Crusade was my favorite time in WoW, and WoD was giving me such nostalgia, such excitement for seeing these zones in their undamaged state. It was wasted, and I’ll never get over it. Missing entire landmasses.

Blackrock Foundry is still my favorite raid of all time, though, to this very day, so there’s one thing.

MoP > DF > SL > Legion > WotLK > BfA > Cata > WoD >BC > Classic

tbh, WoD would be much higher if we actually got all the scrapped content, and BfA would be higher if more of the content was like Drustvar, Mechagon, and Nazjatar
