Which Version

I should preface this by saying, I’ve been playing the same roster of characters since December 2004 so I don’t really need to experience any version of the game I missed out on - I’ve played every expansion even if it was only just to the end of the main campaign/level cap. I’m not dying to play some long foregone version of the game, and I don’t have any nostalgia or preference. In fact I think Retail is the best version of WoW because I enjoy the raid and instance mechanics and their complexity, if not for the struggle of PuGs in raids and M+

That all said, which version of Classic WoW would you suggest for someone that wants to turn their brain off after a day of doing keys and Heroic raids and trying to prog Mythic raids? Like… which version has a decent population, but also a decent amount of challenge?

Personally, I think Archimonde in Mythic Hellfire Citadel was the best fight they’ve designed in the entirety of the game’s history, so…. something of that calibre but with dumbed down Vanilla style rotations and a decent population would be nice.

((Reposted from the other Classic - Classic forum because I have no idea why y’alls forums are separate, how are you supposed to discuss your mode if it’s all divided?))

You will probably hate era and tbc, if you are more about retail. You can try MoP, it has more QoL changes while still being semi classic.

I don’t really care about QoL changes moreso than I do difficulty of combat aside from rotations, I couldn’t care less about rotations. Fight mechanics, etc are more interesting than all that

I still think MoP is your best bet. Getting to endgame in era and TBC will take a long time, and the most challenging thing about leveling through those is the time it takes. That being said I’m having a blast in TBC.

People still play MoP?

I mean, I did it when they were actually current content? It’s supposed to take forever. You just get stupidly high and waste your life away. That’s the point.

It’s a billion times easier than…. say a +14 or even a Normal Voidspire

They’re divided because they’re not the same mode. Each different version of Classic has its own forum.

Currently, the active versions of Classic are Classic Era (Vanilla), TBC Classic Anniversary (The Burning Crusade, that’s where you are right now) and Classic Progression (currently in Mists of Pandaria).

Personally, TBC is my favorite version of WoW, but I also cannot stand retail, so I don’t think we’re likely to have the same opinion there.

I agree with other posters that it’s most likely that you’ll enjoy Mists of Pandaria.

Why though? I don’t really care for MoP, I played it to death when it was live and I did SOO to the point I can do it in my sleep. I did REMIX just a few months ago and the same.

I never got the BT though in TBC, wouldn’t that be better for me?

Also, TBC is my favorite expansion.

Because it has the most fight mechanics with relatively simple rotations compared to retail.

Vanilla and TBC have fewer fight mechanics, as few as one mechanic on a lot of fights.

But if you think TBC would do well for you, then absolutely, join up. (If you decide to play on Dreamscythe, post your character name and I’ll send you some bags.)

Ooooh, I just might. How long will this be active?

I made a character on the Classic Era servers during covid and now he’s in the MoP era servers without my consent or anything, so if it’s the same for this I won’t even bother.

I’d rather just stay in one expansion forever.

I don’t care, I’ll just make them after you post, so until I don’t notice. (There might be a delay of a day or two for me to notice a reply if it takes you a while to decide.)

Classic Era is the only server that we know for sure will be remaining in one expansion forever.

It’s not totally known what TBC Anniversary will be doing after the roadmap is complete, but most people assume it’s going to Wrath of the Lich King next, and then thoughts are split after that (the Anniversary servers started as Vanilla and progressed into TBC). A lot of us would like to have TBC Era servers, but there’s been no comment from Blizzard about it.

I would prefer that, I myself found TBC to be the most interesting and to have the best pacing in terms of content and progression.

I mean it’s almost been two decades but I liked it.

The RNG drop rate in this expansion is horrible for some and decent for others. Can’t tell you how many of us are trying to get trinkets or necks to drop while other people are decked the hell out. We all run the same instances.

If that is your boat feel free to load this bad boy up, maybe the change they are making to drop rates will help, because right now it is Terribly frustrating.

I just hope I even get near level cap before they decide to clear out the servers and do WotLK, which I hate with a passion. I find that expansion boring and drawn out, it is my least favourite of all WoW content.

I literally went back to Everquest 2 when it was the current content because it bored my brain to bits.

Pretty sure they raid log still.

Come to TBC Anniversary Nightslayer servers. They are the most toxic in the world.

I love being toxic! Count me in!
