Which version of this game has the least amount of widespread issues? Classic? SoD? Wrath going into Cata? Hardcore? I don’t really get to play too often but reading these forums it seems like things aren’t great anywhere.
I know the forums are near to air grievances, but what is the least crappy version in everyone’s opinion?

Be wary of judging based on complaints in these forums. There is a TON of hyperbole and overly dramatic takes

It’s all in the way you play.
Retail is fast paced, easy to gear up, but full of players that will give you grief over many things.
Classic is slower, but still fun.
Sod is classic remade with cool abilities.
You have access to all, find your happy place and ignore the trolls.
It really depends on what you’re going for. Classic era is nice for a low-stakes fantasy adventure with some socialization, and hardcore has its appeal for those wanting a bit of an extra challenge.
I like SoD and currently has the most people out of ‘classic’ things, but does have its own set of problems, mostly with people rushing to complete everything, and there not really being all that much to do extra.
Wrath era is basically classic with some extra modern conveniences, while still keeping the old world
Retail has the most modern conveniences and is very pretty, leveling and gearing is very fast with it mostly being designed to get you to end game and do stuff at max level. Not a big sense of adventure unless you go out of your way to make it for yourself, but tons of things to collect and numbers to watch go up with the most actual challenging content.
All of these versions have their merits, its up to you to decide what sounds most enjoyable to you
