Returning player here,
With all the versions of WoW that are available now, I ended up downloading all of them but now I don’t know what choice to make but I know I want to play where most people are at!
-Season of Discovery
-Cataclysm
-Classic
-Retail
and maybe another one I’m missing
Bit confused on whats going on but I know I want to jump back in and play again but I have no clue on what version of WoW is popular/fun.
What do you think is best right now for returning/new players?
Depends, do you want the old/traditional MMO where you NEED to group up with people to do damn-near anything? Classic.
Did you stop playing before MoP and want to experience what you missed? Classic Cata.
Brand-new player? Go with Classic to see why this game has been around for 20 years, but go with Retail if you want the modern experience (which is great for solo or group play).
I think it’s a little too late to jump into SoD.
all of them tbh but i think sod is the lowest populated one atm.
cata just got hour of twilight and will be hittin mop here soon,
anniversary has players doing content at all levels.
retail is eh lol…got ppl just kinda a lull.
if you’re wanting end-game stuff, sod, cata and retail.
if i really have to pick i’d say anniversary for fresh and people are doing
everything rn on both factions from lvling to endgame but mostly level.

Hmm well i started playing the game when cata came out so I think either that or Retail might be the best move since that’s the most recent content which would probably be better than classic since its modern
There almost all populated with enough players to feel alive. SoD is in a weird spot because it’s “ending” but blizzard hasn’t said what the “end” looks like aside from our chars won’t be deleted. Retail is surprisingly still popping…as in I’m not having trouble pugging heroic clears and my weekly keys. Idk about cata as I don’t play there but the classic fresh realms and HC realms are still healthy. Really whatever game u want to play is a good choice right now

I started on SoD about a month ago. It’s not too late at all. It’s quite enjoyable and the pace is great. People are still out here leveling up.
I think he meant there might not be any more new content for it.
If they’re moving it to TBC i might give it a try tbh but I think we havent heard a word about it

If you want to play TBC level a toon On the classic fresh servers
Well, Retail has been pretty consistently busy, but S2 is just next week so that will have an influx of old and new people trying it out.
As mentioned Cata is turning into MoP soon, I may delve into that because MoP was one of my favorite expansions.
Classic is niche, I think I enjoy the many quality of life improvements that we have now over Classic but there’s something to be said about kinda scrapping everything to improve your character, in even the smallest of ways. And, yes, grouping isn’t a suggestion, it’s a requirement. It has it’s dedicated fans for certain.
You can always try all of them out and see which one sticks most with you, but I’d say all of them are currently active.

No sir and/or ma’am it is not too late to pick up SoD. For all we know, they’ll move on to SoD BC.
SOD and Cata are basically dead.
Classic Anniversary and Retail both have very healthy player bases.

SoD and Cata both put up raiding numbers similar to Anniversary afaik.

most brand new players that try classic quit before lv 35 its simply far too long to max the quests are convoluted and travel time is just endless walking it can take 30ms to an hour to get to somewhere then discover you forgot the quest item

This is just false. Maybe on the server you play on but Wild Growth is definitely alive and well.
It sounds like I think I’ll max out a character in retail since thats the version of wow thats moving foward with new content. and once I get geared up then I’ll move to cata since MoP is around the corner!
