Which to level first Mage or Warlock?

I have both set up and will level both but which should I level first? I thought about some of the pros and cons of each.

Mage:
Pros
Great in dungeon groups CC and AOE
AOE farming mats and gold, could help towards epic lock mount
Wanted in early raids, Frost
Food/Water
Teleports/Portals

Cons
Slower leveling than lock, unless AOE grind. Not my thing.
Mount gold sink
Everybody and their brother is a Mage.

Warlock:
Pros
Faster solo leveling
Cheaper lvl 40 mount option
Good in group dungeons CC freaks people out
Needed in raids but less spots
Summoning is sexy

Cons
Epic mount is Phase 2
Soul Shards
AOE mats and gold? Dotting and managing

What are some factors I am missing?

If you’re going to level both, does it matter which you level first???

Mage is better off early endgame. Locks are good but won’t be top until later phases. So i’d say mage for a simple answer. Lock seems like a lot of fun and is plenty viable though, up to you.

I went with Warlock for multiple reasons:

  • Low downtime
  • Low gear dependence
  • Versatile toolkit
  • Cheap mount
  • Self-sufficient; can solo elites without much issue
  • Fun to play in PvP
  • Does not get shoehorned into healing or tanking endgame
  • Limited number of core skills while leveling (cheap training)
  • Class quests are largely ignorable until endgame (not much running around the world for single quest chains)

These qualities allow you to acquire and save more money, and allow one to level painlessly and reasonably quickly. Mages have a lot of downtime and are squishier than I generally like.

Mage first. Get it to be able to aoe. Thats your big pro. Then level off rested exp while leveling the warlock. Both will be 60 soon or later.

if you go mage you have to drink all the time. i got one to 9 before switching servers. i’ve gotten to 12 on 2 different servers with warlock and my current server i have one at level 8. warlock is more fun imo and the spells are cooler. i have 2 retail 120 warlocks though and no 120 mages. so take my opinion as it sits. lol
