Blizz is going to say it made sense and was a win for the horde despite neither thing making sense because thats the narrative they want to sell, but thats a separate issue

Some of the lore IS a bit weird and conflicting. in Alliance quests, genn greymane saves a gilnean child. In the book, he saves a night elf baby.
I think we won’t know until Blizzard gives us the big reveal of Sylvanas’s true motives that they’ve been vaguely hinting at ever since this whole thing started. The stuff in the book is what she tells Saurfang, not internal monologue, right?
Considering the sheer number of retcons, I say that canon is whatever you want it to be at this point.
