According to what we know about Night Elves? That we can actually tame, which fits the aesthetic and which makes sense lore wise?
Ban’thalos is about the only one.
Ban’thalos, Magria and Ankha
Hhhng, I don’t know the name, but that spirit owl that flies around Stonetalon always felt very Night Elfy to me, many hunters have it.
That owl Ban’thalos hands down.
It looks like a Sentinels Owl. Or that spying owl from Tyrande from WC3.
I really REALLY whish we could tame the model tehy used for Terrors of Darkshore. At best as an NE exclusive during the Heritage armor questline or so.
How does this one rank? Sounds great for a priestess of elune.
Lady Sathrah was once beloved of Elune. Graceful and pure, the spider spun her silver threads through the moonlight, catching the evening mist. The silvery dew had strong healing powers and was kept at the nearby temple.
EDIT: Just found out you can’t tame the spirit version. Sworn I saw a tamed ghost spider.
The ghost sabers from figurines in Darkshore, Shadowclaw, Duskfang too.
Arcturis and Bulvinkel as well fit pretty good imo,
For a night elf hunter that wanders the world, any predator makes sense as a bonded companion. Your character’s lore doesn’t stop with their birth, nor does it end at the borders of Ashenvale. And remember Beastmasters can have two.
Ban’thalos is the most solid pick for a NE hunter Spirit beast thematically. But I agree with Drahliana’s sentiment that Beastmasters can bond with anything anywhere, often having multiple companions they travel with. Rexxar is an excellent example as Misha is his primary companion, but Huffer and Leokk are often in his company as well.
Heck my Zandalari Hunter come Shadowlands is going to be palling around with a Kunchong and his faithful Wind Serpent. It’s fun to mix it up a bit.
A spirit cat is just as thematic for a night elf huntrress as a spirit owl. One of the really great rares, before rares were a thing was the ruins of Mathystra. there were these urns that you could collect or break and one of them would occasionally release a ghostly nightsaber that would attack. A quick thinking hunter could tame it, and I still have one in my stable.
Oh, for sure. Any of the Spirit Tigers would be fantastic picks as well. When I think of a NE Huntress my thoughts immediately go to a Spirit Owl and a Nightsaber, that was my thought process.
But again, fun to mix it up. Pick one thematic pet if you must (Wind Serpent, Spirit Raptor, Direhorn in my case), but tie your other companions to the journey you’ve made along the way (Kunchong, Dread Raven, Jormungar).
And then go further beyond and have a matching mount, so it’s like your companion doubles as your transport. Being a hunter comes with wild thematics.
To go all in, pick a non combat pet to summon to complement your combat pet, they could play the same role as those ferrets in the “Beastmaster” series.
I have a couple of triplex arrangements back in the day. I tamed one of those blue dragonhawks from Sunwell Plateau with the help of some raid buddies (which you needed to have if you were doing this at level), I would ride ground level with the blue dragonhawk mount and flying behind me would be the little blue dragonhawk pet I bought in Outland. Another was winterspring mount, tamed winterspring frostsaber, and frostsaber cub pet.
My favorite pair at the moment is those two rare coursers from Azuna that spawn together. I tamed them both and they are my current beast pair. And I think that they are just as thematically appropriate for a night elf as the generic owl and cat motif.
I love seeing combos like that. Takes some dedication to make it work.
I want to do it with the Green BFA Frog model, but I gotta wait until pre-patch for those to be tamable. Then I gotta bite the bullet and buy the mount and grind Mythic Conclave for the Krag’wa mini-pet. Outta be fun.
I honestly did fall in love with Gara.
Maybe you’re thinking of the Ghost crab?
As others have said - saber cats and owls.
Ghost crab sounds correct.
