Hello! I feel like I know the answer to this, but I wanted to ask the community first. Is Resto really the only spec to bring into a raid in Classic? I just hit 60 and wanted to experience some of the raiding as a Shaman. I don’t mind being Resto, but I just wanted to ask before respeccing.
Thanks!
Hance or resto.
In alot of ways it’s not on you which spec you play, it’s the guilds choice unless you’re dead set on one or the other.

Naw. You see some enhance, but you’re definitely going to see waay more Ele. And Resto is king.
Resto is a guaranteed raid slot.
Enhance or ele is memey and will likely be more easily passed up. At this point though guilds may just want warm bodies and will take what they can get if you were dead set on a spec. This isn’t 2004 where the game is all that hard to beat, people are farming Naxx.

Play what you want, get wb for 40mans and ask for invites to pugs early before they are full on certain roles, if you are playing a non-optimal spec. Or get nightfall, raids might take you if have that axe.
in classic? I know of 1 raiding ele sham and atleast a dozen bonkybois. Lost count of the resto’s running around.
There are almost 2x as many Elemental Shaman parses in Naxx over the past 2 weeks and Elemental Shamans do more damage than Enhancement Shamans.
ok. I havent even bothered raiding since P4 so I just go off what I see on my server and ele shams are rare outside of BG’s.
Fight dependant. Unless you’re making a beginners mistake and only comparing top parses.
Ok, fair enough. Enhancement Shaman, over the past 2 weeks, does more damage than elemental at the 20th percentile and lower, in aggregate, across Naxx.
In classic? Yes, pretty much is the most sought after class and unless you already have god-tier gear (i.e. all naxx/aq40) you’re not getting picked up for raiding.
Ele and enhance have their places, but only if you’ve been raiding with a guild this whole time in vanilla – and even then as ele I still have a lot of fights where the healing is needed more than the DPS, like with princess huhu on her aoe spam or visc.
Healing with a shaman is also pretty fun. Raid healing is a matter of keeping totems down and spamming R1 chain heal endlessly with 3 T2 and preferably 5 T2.5 for output.
Full T1 is actually STILL super good at single target tank sustain, if you have the accessories to boost your actual +healing up.
Being mail also means you have a LOT less competition for gear, as druids are in short supply so all that good leather and mail gear is basically yours.
Then if you choose to go TBC, ele enh and resto are all amazing and in demand to some degree – as optimal raids will have 2 to 5 shamans (10 mans, 25 mans).
