Which spec is best for soloing Torghast?

I usually play ret but I starting having trouble around the end of layer 6, so I switched to prot. That felt worse and I didn’t like the playstyle. Haven’t tried holy yet.

I do layer 8 on mine pretty all right as Ret.

It’s a matter of how you manage mobs and CDs.

Prot starts off slow, but is fairly steady and can get strong at the end. Able to do layer 8 solo no matter what the end boss is.

Ret with a bit of gear 210+ much faster then prot. But prot with lower gear is pretty fail safe. I run all the talents for lots of crusader strikes and anima powers that add holy power. Then for the boss I switch to single target

If you’re venthyr prot you can just run to the floor boss, drop ashen hallow and aoe everything down. I can clear 8 floor torghast runs in like 15 mins. I’m about ilvl 214 as prot.
*Just ran through soulforges layer 8 and finished it in 11 mins.

Layer 8 is pretty easy especially if you know which powers to pick. The only one where it gets tricky is twisting corridors. You need the 50% DR with wings until it expires or boss will 2 shot you.

Try shifting to Seraphim and Final Reckoning. Those two abilities can make a big difference in your ability to wipe mob packs quickly.

Outside of that, ensure you aren’t taking the stat increases, the maw rat, or the first hit abilities (aside from the first attack on elite one) unless they are the only option given. Focus on the abilities that empower wings, reduce the CD on Divine Shield, or improve the power of your covenant ability.

Build HP for your burst opener, gather a solid group, DS, then blow everything. If you do that and pull carefully, waiting to pull groups with more than 2 or 3 unless your CDs are ready, and you build to make the boss as easy as possible, it should get simpler for you.

Ret has no major drawbacks that cannot be handled in Torghast, so take your time. Feel free to ask further questions.

Yup
Unlimited wings, 50% DR, tons of health and lifesteal and (if you can get it) not able to get hit for more than 25% health in 1 hit.

If you can get the right build, the final boss will be unable to kill you as you will fully heal between their attacks.

Even for twisting corridors that strat works. It’s definitely rougher, but finished out layer7 twisting corridors in just under an hour.

I didn’t do Torghast with ret, but I assume it should be fine, but with prot Torghast is extremely easy. You can do all the wings and levels half sleeping and do not care much about anima

Ret is by far the best.

You want cold heart plume and the mad paragon anima powers, then look for the one that gives HoW 3 charges. After that you should be pretty tanky. Stack haste and HP where you can. If you get 3 stacks of winged plume, then it’s pretty much gg with perms wings.

I personally did 1-8 twisting corridor with prot

Prot is the best. I’ve been soloing layer 8 for quite a long while now with zero issues. Pulling and entire room is fun!!!

A lot of it boils down to your current iLvL and if that is your main it’s pretty low for that. Granted this is after all the nerfs Torghast has had. I would try to pick up so more gear and you will find you will do better in there.

Do a tour of some M+ or if able Normal raiding or PvP for a bit to get that ilvl past 200 and you will find you will do better in there. By the end of the day Torghast is a numbers/math game: if your gear doesnt allow you to push past a certain point in damage and health pool then you wont be able to keep up with the last Layers of the Tower.

That being said you getting as far as you have at 188 ilvl is amazing.

I do Layer 8’s with Ret spec, and almost full Holy gear. Only weapon and trinkets are Ret. And I have yet to die to a single run.

However, I cannot get past the Maw of the Maw at room 18 on Twisting Corridors. I just don’t have the burst for it. I can do all 18 floors fine, but the final boss wrecks me every time.

The more interrupts you have the better. And on short CD. That’s it. Everything else about Torghast is just about having enough Anima powers.

Twisted Corridors is a little different in this case. Damage starts to matter a lot more for two reasons:

#1. You start running out of cooldowns to hit.
#2. Damage ramping, the long it takes to kill the more damage it does.

I have run 90% as ret , I found Prot too slow

hm, I thought about it, but when I tried, I actually did it in about the same time as a prot. As with prot you can just grab 1 or 2 rooms and quickly nuke them with all your aoe skills. But if with ret I sometimes care about to pick the anima or manage hp, then with prot it doesn’t matter
But I’m a bad ret, so there is a big chance that I just doing something wrong

After trying all of them on my Pally I found that HOLY is the easiest one.
