So let’s say you’re in a +17, right? A key where people actually have to put out a bit to win. How tolerable is it if the tank is bad, versus the healer being bad, versus one of the DPS being bad? Which one do you notice the most, and which one is most detrimental to the key?
The tank. A bad route or poor pulling can cost a lot of time, even if you don’t wipe. The perfect tank tries to pull large around his groups cooldowns, such as his Destro locks infernal or his fire mage combustion, and pull more conservatively when those are unavailable.
A healers job is really only as difficult as the rest of the party makes it. Yes you have to use CDs properly, which includes knowing WHEN, and there are unavoidable moments of high intensity healing, but if people actually use their defensives and avoid the bad, you’ll find every healer has more than enough in their toolkit for a 17. Problems arise when bad DPS/Tanks take avoidable damage, force you to use CDs when you shouldn’t have needed to, and then have nothing left for those high healing mechanics.
A single bad DPS has an effect that is proportional to what numbers the other two DPS are putting up.
I haven’t done a 17 this season, but I think these takes are fairly universal across seasons.
The OP is never happy and just flails around for a spec that might be the one to change that. A week ago it was arms warrior, a few days ago it was fire mage, yesterday it was holy pally, now I guess it will be something new based on what role a few random people on the forums say is easiest, etc.
So run keys at a level appropriate to the performance of the builds you enjoy. After KSL it doesn’t matter how high you get if you aren’t going for top .1%. There’s no meaningful difference between peaking at 13s vs 20s, other than your personal enjoyment which is not there for you while stressing over your performance.
No, for example, I find SKB more fun than unleashed inferno. I find hyperthermia and pyromaniac more fun than firefall and whatever comes before it.
I find lightsmith and AC more fun than a cast-focused sunbro build.
I find dance of Chi-ji more fun than empowered lightning.
I like holy more than I like disc.
I like divine word for holy priest.
I liked holy word: salvation and think apotheosis is boring.
I like frostfire way more than sunfury.
I like veneration.
I try my best playing these builds, and I sim and all that to try and maximize my damage or healing or whatever, but they just numerically cannot keep up because Activision doesn’t know how to design games.
So while I want to continue having fun, I want to be as little a burden as possible.
Most likely at this level no one can be bad. A bad tank or healer will kill the key faster than a bad dps. But timer will be killed with just a bad dps most times.
if you said something like ~13 i would say healer probably has the most leeway as long as the dpsers are the tough kind. i dont know anything about +17s tho lol
There’s months of testing for every patch. They can see, “Oh, hyperthermia is terrible. We should buff it or nerf other options.” But they just don’t. We FINALLY got a change to hyperthermia coming next patch, but nothing for SKB being legit garbage next to unleashed inferno and nothing for pyromaniac (which was better before, imo).
Like, sure, they can’t get it perfect. But they’re just not even trying. There’s legit no reason for these talent pages when half of them are useless. I honestly prefer the MoP style talents as they force Activision to design a class that works, and your talents are actually a choice.
Sure, it’s 20% less if I play legit perfectly, which I don’t because I’m not a robot. And my teammates are likely bad, so I can’t rely on them to make up for me – nor do I want to needlessly stress people out if I can help it.
Lol well it’s my limit this season so far. I’m planning ahead for next season.
