Hi,
Returning after a long hiatus and starting up a Monk Windwalker. I am only a casual player enjoying the content and lore.
I’m at the point to pick professions, if I want them. So I’m asking for feedback for the following options:
- Skinning + Leatherworking
- Herbalism + Alchemist
- Nothing
Which do you think is the most fun and useful, if any?

If fun and useful are your criteria, I’d recommend Mining/Engineering.
I picked herb/alchemy for the potions needed for raiding and other bonuses, but Mining/engineering more useful however you won’t make much money from that compared to others. Leatherworking/skinning will be a help for shadowlands because of crafting legendary but if you have an alt then you can put that combo on an alt or your main.
Thank you for the replies. I will not be raiding or joining a guild. With that, would any of the professions I listed (the only ones I’m considering) still be worth it and fun?

None of them are fun. For LW Most all of the patterns are obsolete or will be obsolete shortly after crafting the item with gear so readily available this late into the Xpac
Alchemy is just potions and flasks. Everything you make can be bought on the AH.
If you want “fun” I’d go Engineering.

I mainly play Brewmaster, but for me, if it’s usefulness you want, I run Inscription and Tailoring.
No synergy whatsoever in-terms of gathering materials, so it might be expensive on your gold pouch when it comes to training both, but here’s why both are useful.
Inscription
Almost every item in this profession for BFA is useful, to a certain extent.
- War-scrolls that give party-wide buffs and act as somewhat weaker substitutes to class buffs you would gain from priests, warriors, and mages, if you don’t have any of them on your team.
- Codices that can be placed down to allow your party/raid members to swap talents.
- Tomes that you can craft on your own without having to buy them expensive from the Auction House.
- Darkmoon cards, as always, for collecting the decks.
- Faction-specific contracts that last 1 week, can be swapped at any time, and give a few reputation points with the contracted faction every time you complete World Quests (every WQ completed rewards you 10 points when you have a contract active).
- Vantus Rune crafting to use for certain Raid bosses (only 1 can be used per week, but give somewhat decent advantages).
- Hydrocore and Sanguicelli crafting.
- Warfront contributions.
For casual gameplay, Inscription is still useful, but only for two things:
- Class-specific glyphs, which can be mailed to all your characters.
- Old Darkmoon card sets, for your hefty collection.
Tailoring
As a monk, you have no use for cloth items. That’s not what Tailoring is for. It holds a few significant advantages to go this profession.
- Craftable 30- and 32-slot bags that you can make for all your characters and give to them through mailing.
- Battle Flags that provide party-wide buffs in both PvE and PvP (excluding Rated Battlegrounds).
- Easy Expulsom farming through scrapping low-grade equipment you make, with their required materials being very cheap on the Auction House.
- Hydrocore and Sanguicelli crafting.
- Warfront contributions.
For casual gameplay, there really isn’t much to expect from Tailoring for a monk.
If you want a fun profession, like a few have said in here, go Engineering. It’s sort-of “fun”, but Engineering for BFA feels rushed, and actually leveling it is expensive to get the real, cool stuff from it.
