I’m just trying to do good dps. I know certain raids and dungeons had resistance depending on spec, but which one is good for leveling?
Probably Fire is the go to leveling spec…
Both are ok, frost for AOE grinding, Fire for single target.
Frost. It’s always been frost to level, then you need to stay frost through MC/Ony because everything is immune to fire.
I think most mages switched to fire in AQ.
You’re basically going to be frost leveling and early raiding.
Actual answer: You can level as either Fire or Frost, it’ll be fine either way though your playstyle will change slightly based on spec.
Just don’t level as Arcane.
Really appreciate the help ty. Was gonna go Shaman but when I remembered they weren’t the best damage dealers it made me reconsider.

most people level as Frost because It has more tools to help with survivability (Cold Snap, Ice Block, Ice Barrier)
Yee. Frost leveling, aoe grinding is best. Or you could be a badass and go fire. You could also pvp with fire so it’s a win-win. Everyone will be going frost. DON’T GIVE IN TO THE PEER PRESSURE.
I leveled fire the whole way. I seem to recall switching to frost around L30 because that was when frost bolt hits about as hard as fireball and seeing if that is better. I decided tThere is nothing better for leveling than a fireball, fireblast, POM Pyro macro. I switched to frost for raiding and cried for three days. Frost is so much slower and weaker than fire but it’s the only option for MC/BWL.

For single target, yes. AoE leveling with Imp Blizzard and Clearcasting is the way to go. You can pull 10+ mobs and mow them down. Plus it’s a huge advantage for when it comes to farming/grinding out stuff.
While leveling, Frost is both powerful and safe, you have nice survivabilty and AoE. Fire is more of a single target thing, from AQ raiding onward it makes a lot of sense.
I leveled as fire and it was fine, but I’d probably go frost if I made another mage. Even ignoring aoe grinding (which you probably won’t be able to do early on due to overcrowding), it’s a much safer spec. Frost also has a bit more to it mechanically which helps stave off boredom.
Fire is best for single target, but you’re vulnerable to ganks. If you’re rolling PVP, frost has the survival. Frost can also aoe grind, which would put it at # 1, but now you’re making yourself a prime gank target
