I dont remember which interview it was in, but I know there was one where he mentioned that ankh is considered a defensive but I cant remember which one it was in. Can anyone help me find it?

To prove a point to someone. A buddy is claiming that Ion never said that but I cant find the interview for the life of me, so its to prove a point about why ankh needs to change

It was in BFA that he said it.

Looks like it was back in August 2017 on one of the ā€œaskwowdevsā€ things they did.

Sh!t like this is why I just don’t buy all the blizzard employees who claim they ā€˜main’ shaman. There is just no way.

It’s the ā€œI have plenty of [blank] friendsā€ of wow discourse. There’s no way there are so many devs maining a class this neglected.

Ahh yes, dying to use a defensive at the right time is clearly a ā€œskill issueā€ on my part, how could I have been so naive that I thought defensives where trying to prevent death.

Shaman class fantasy is to die.

Remember in WoD as you leveled every other level you got a perk to a spell.

Shaman was reincarnation.

it promotes synergy with ret paladins

This remains one of the most clueless and out of touch things a Blizzard dev has ever said.

I refuse to believe that Ion ever mained a shaman like he’s claimed in the past.

If I remember correctly, he mained resto, at least up until Sepulcher.

Once upon a time Ankh was an excellent defensive. Once upon a time shield wall had a 30 minute cooldown, and most classes didn’t have a defensive cooldown at all.

Back in those days Ankh was the best defensive in the game. Unfortunately, our trusty steed being better than everybody else walking doesn’t help much when we live in a time that everybody is driving cars. It just hasn’t kept up with the times and is now actively holding the class back. It needs either massive updates or just outright replaced.

Its really sad that enhancement’s durability is less now than it used to be, despite every other class in the game seeing huge defensive improvements. Shamanistic Rage was better than Astral shift, wolves did percentage based healing and you were almost unkillable with them up, you could pre cast healing rain if you knew something nasty was coming, and using MSW to heal didn’t completely destroy your damage. All of that and we still had Ankh.

/sigh

Tinfoil hat time, but I have a sneaking suspicion that that’s exactly why shaman keeps getting left in the miserable state it’s been in for ages.

Ion mains Resto in raids.

But he’s also too busy to play much.

So he doesn’t want Resto undergoing major upheavals that he would need time to adapt to, and prefers the spec be on a trickle feed of updates to its gameplay that don’t throw him off his game.

And since raiding as Resto is the only thing he does, as long as Resto is performing adequately in raids, the class overall is considered to be doing fine.

Tinfoil hat… check…

However, your logic flows are reasonable and don’t really require the hoops to jump through that others might need so. I’d argue it’s a viable concern.

That old mindset of Resto = raid spec is also why I only recently started raiding, that and I took a heck of a break, because I remember the old days when if you were a Shaman you were expected to heal and that was it. I preferred hitting stuff. So I joined the pvp scene for a time and introduced some unfortunate souls to the nightmare that was the WW chainsaw…

To be clear, I do not actually think this is true, at least not so directly.

But it’s frustrating that it sounds as plausible as it does.

I assumed that was the case. I get frustrated sometimes and throw out a tinfoil hat theory myself sometimes. like the fact that the shaman’s got hit with a pvp nerf just before the dev’s are slated to fight them in pvp.
