Which healer pairs best with Warlock Tank who is AOEing instances?

Hello,

So I am going to be duo grinding instances with a friend and I’m the Warlock Meta tank. The goal is for me to essentially spam Hellfire while he heals me and does nothing else.

So the question: Which healer should my friend play which compliments me best for AOE tanking instances duo style with the healer?

Would it be a Priest, because he can do bubble + renew + stam buff?

Or would it be a Paladin, because they can do that aura which stops spell interrupts, making Hellfire channel even better?

NOTE: This would be duo only, no other players, just me (Meta Warlock) + friend (healer).

What are your thoughts on which healer class to play?

Checking in with a 40 mage, priest, and druid healer, all of which finished BFD with 97 or better averages. One of which already has a 99 Gnomer average. All that info just for a frame of experience.

Not one single healer will want to play with you after two runs.
Hellfire Meta tank is absolutely abhorrent to heal.

And bubble and renew are too mana inefficient, if you force this terrible idea anyway it’ll be all penance and heal spam. A paladin would have the least bad time between SS and efficient ST healing, but sometimes you’re just gonna die doing this and lose XP per hour and make your duo wish you rolled literally any other tank.

Edit: as posted below, paladin also brings concentration aura, so at least you won’t have pushback.

Paladin for the concentration aura

This.

Meta tanks in general take more damage than Shammy tanks and a lot more damage than warrior tanks- damaging yourself on top of it? Bring lots of water and soulstone your healer.

Healing Scarlet runs on my Disc Priest was so harrowing and tedious it burnt me out and I stopped playing her.

Leveling my Hunter now and finding my happy place.

It’s rough out here, support bros.

Horde equivalent would be resto shaman with Earth Shield>

(But any of them are gonna have a rough time)

Rough enough without our tanks literally killing themselves

My shaman is not 40 yet, but I can confirm that Hellfire damage does not tick Earthshield. It will proc off the damage he takes anyway, but that’s true for all tanks, so it’s no better or worse here.

The idea was the 70% pushback reduction that would be gained by paladin aura.

While leveling, a pally could technically be better in this situation so you can get to 100% pushback resistance with concentration aura if you’re specing destruction. A priest is overall the stronger healer currently though if they want to level a priest.

At 40 if you went soul link, a priest’s PoM is one of the strongest and most mana efficient heals in the game and could bounce back and forth between you and your pet. A pally could beacon heal you both at the same time though.

At some point the priest can get power infusion which might be a nice cooldown to pop on you on a big pull.

Pain suppression might be nice at some point, though a paladin could BoP you and shield themselves in some situations which would be stronger I guess.

Blessing of Sacrifice on you and beacon of light to heal you both at once might be an interesting combo someday, but that’s level 46+.

Resto Shaman if you were Horde would be more annoying to keep ES up for pushback resistance (we’ve been asking for buffs to ES since phase 1 though so maybe we’ll get them this phase), but downtime would be lower as they could pant swap to Shamanistic Rage with DW rockbiter to reduce downtime between pulls.

Probably just have them pick whichever healer they think they’ll enjoy more at 40. Pallies and Shaman are more likely to get buffs at some point since priest’s are currently on top. :man_shrugging:

Resto Druid and Mage healer could honestly be options as well. You’ll have a lot more AoE with a Mage secondary to kill faster, though not sure healing wise how it would work since their AoE beacon healing is severely nerfed. Resto Druid also seems fairly likely to get buffs to underused runes like lifebloom and seed at some point… though they ignored them throughout phase 1 so maybe not.

edit:

I guess I could also mention I did a decent chunk of leveling to 40 2 manning SM Lib/Arm/Cath myself, but I did it as a resto shaman with a feral druid. We didn’t AoE, just pulled one group at a time. I tanked and healed myself while the feral shredded things.

If you took a less AoE and slower approach you could also do lock + shadow priest or lock + mage or lock + druid spamming wrath (balance or resto) or lock + ret. They’d be able to heal you enough as a DPS while adding more damage.

Indeed. I spec my lock for hellfire tanking, and it was not even fun. I respec demo, i prefer to just tab tag searing pain non stop. The only thing i lost is 15% crit chance and the double crit. Overall i have better survability and i dont loose agro anyway.

Fair, forgot that got tied into Earth shield.

Hey there, thanks for the response! What wasn’t fun about it? Were you doing instances VS raiding?

That’s a good point that I keep on thinking about.

Your response has a TON of good information. Thank you very much!

Dungeons. But the only times i tried there were no paly, so wasting so much mana for a spell that you cant fully channel. It makes it kind of pointless.
If you are going to hrll fire you will want
1- uninterruptible
2- cast drain life master channeller just before

I think next phase though they might give us some kind of immolation aura. Lot better

Resto Shaman. Give him earth shield and heals and watch him go.

Ah that’s a great idea, master channel drain life and THEN hellfire. If you have pally aura, then you can probably get a full hellfire off before doing drain life again. A good 1/2 combo.

I like it!

Oooh Immolation Aura?!

Yeah, well saw it pre-P2 in the datamined runes. Cant remember which gear slot. Could be for p3 or p4. Could also be just for testing so might not even implement it, but I like dreaming

I like this dream as well

Hellfire is a trap tab searing pain

That’s not how AOE works!

Earth shield sucks bro
