Which Expansion were you most excited about before launch?

Title.

Not if you liked the expansion, just how excited you were the day of…the anticipation and the watching of the time.

For me: BFA

That hype was real and palatable. They hit a home run on their marketing pre-release.

WoD or Cataclysm, probably. Or WOTLK. I remember being very excited back in the day.

BfA promised somethign they didn’t delivered

This one actually. But only because I want to play at current patch again (I’ve been doing old content since returning after 3 years).

I’ve been equally excited before every launch! New things to do, places to explore.

Mists of Pandaria. I about lost my mind lol

Probably Cataclysm. I was still riding somewhat high from WotLK while at the same time being ready for something new after a year of ICC.

Wrath of the Lich King. Newer expansions never got the same hype.

Yeah, sadly I didn’t play then. I’m sure it would have been insane

Wrath…and the hype never met reality for me. One of the most disappointing expansions for me.

WotLK - TBC was awesome and WoW was running on all cylinders at the time.

Definitely Legion.

I don’t think any expac (story wise) will ever match up to the hype there was for Legion.

Shadowlands. I thought it had insane potential storywise. The ability to use all characters, alive or dead, in an afterlife world with endless possibilities.

And then they failed miserably to do anything good at all, horrible direction with the current story and characters, plus ruining the entire wow lore with ridiculous retcon.

WoD, because it was the first expansion that I got a beta invite to and I really got into the game around 5.4. I remember everyone on my realm flying outside the Dark Portal right before launch, which was around 3:15 in the morning because I guess Blizzard didn’t bother with proper scheduling back then.

The actual expansion was enjoyable until the joke that was 6.1 and my Alliance DK’s then-current guild disbanding shortly after BRF’s release. That was when I switched to SWTOR until a few days after Legion came out.

The Cataclysm boat sinking/lagging-out under the weight of the first expedition and just dumping us all in the ocean was sort of funny.

“Charge the Portal !!!” still echos in my ears. I was a rare lucky person who managed to play all through the WoD launch without issues.

Shadowlands, to my surprise, had the largest final-hour crowd in the capital that I can remember.

You won’t find many people that agree with this but I think MoP was probably the one I was most excited for. Other expansions I either wasn’t too invested in WoW at the time, like Burning Crusade and WotLK, or was going through a little bit of a hate session with WoW, like for Legion I was fed up with WoD so didn’t really get that invested. MoP, however, I had only just started playing again as I had skipped most of Cata so I was still in a good frame of mind for WoW, and was eager fir the next launch. And I’d say it worked out great.

For a very brief period of time I was excited for Shadowlands, as it was pretty certain that’s where we were going next, the Shadowlands had a lot of potential, and after the flop of BFA they were due another good expansion. That excitement lasted right up until Shadowlands was actually revealed. More specifically, it died with the reveal of covenants. I knew they were going to be horrible…

My warlock still has:

In his quest log from the pre-Cata event. Handy to link in chat for a multitude of occasions.

In fact, somewhere on some forlorn realm, I still have a couple of characters with the Twilight Cultists sandwich boards on them still.

pre-Cata event was awesome.

Shadowlands honestly… BfA was such a let down that I was hoping Blizzard would redeem themselves with SL. Sadly it only got worse, now I’m not excited for DF but hope for the best.

Cataclysm, because:

Instead I was given a job as Chauffer to an Orc going through a mid-life crisis and when that didn’t work out the employment agency set me up as a manicurist.

Wrath was my first time being able to experience the pre-patch (I started in the BC pre-patch), but honestly I think it was Legion.

Watching Tirion fall, making a demon hunter, just getting really amped to fight the Legion!
