Posted this in general but it was buried in minutes after the launch of WW, so figured I’d try here!
Been playing wow for years on and off…I’ve tried just about every class and they are all fun in their own ways. However, the one class I’ve never really tried beyond maybe level 20-30 is DK. I’m not sure what it is that’s kept me from giving them a proper try but I’m considering it now!
Not really sure how any of the DK specs play. Plus, with the new expansion dropping I imagine what’s ‘Meta’ and not will change over the next month or two a fair bit, so I am not caring too much about what’s currently the new fad.
Which spec would be a moderate challenge to play? By moderate, I mean not too easy (I think BM Hunter being a bit too easy) nor do I want something too hard (shadow priest comes to mind).
For me, I’d say a moderate challenge is something like arcane mage level of play. Lots of opportunity for neat synergy and skill to get the most out of a build if a person wants to deep dive into it, but also not requiring you to remember 30 different skills to use in perfect rotation in order to deliver adequate results! You know, a balance, if such a thing exists!
Any input would be great. Thank you!
Unholy has a complicated opener but very little to do outside of that opener. San’Layn changes that up somewhat with upkeep buffs.
Frost is more simple but has moment to moment branching gameplay that I’m finding to be very fun.
Blood is a tank spec so it’s as challenging as you make it out to be, I guess. It’s less conventional than other tanks.
Thanks for the reply.
For me unholy always seemed exactly as you said; a bit more complicated. The only time I’ve ever really played DK was an unholy. It took me a bit to figure it out but I did eventually. It’s a very fun spec to play.
Frost sounds fun though. It’s a spec I’ve never heard anything good about, but with a new expansion comes new changes, so maybe it will be in a better place ?
Tanking is something I do enjoy, but I don’t have any knowledge of end game dungeons, raids, etc. I’ve been absent in dragon flight until just this week, so I’ll prob stick with frost or unholy until I learn the dungeons a bit.
Granted, the ones I’ve done in group finder have been easier than previous expansions so maybe I can just jump in. Either way thanks!
Unholy imho.
I keep a small action bar downsized considerably off to the side of my screen specifically for opening rotations. It’s just 12 buttons. That I press in that specific order at the start of any raid boss. Condense your potion/trinket/racial accordingly into whatever the best CD in that set up is via macro to save more space.
This was a massive reduction in unholy’s kit complexity for me when I played it. And significantly improved my parses…
Fwiw I have a similar bar I use on some specs specific to the aoe rotation as well.
My main hot bar is core rotational stuff I do in every other scenario plus some QoL stuff like kicks or movement abilities.
This way I know mentally I just look over here 2-3 times a fight otherwise I’m jamming normal at rotation and CD windows.
