Which classes are the rarest kill targets in pvp? [Solo Shuffle]

Hi all,

Which classes or specs are most and least likely to be targeted in 3s or solo shuffle? Let’s say there is uniform distribution of attacking comps, so anyone could be attacking the given player.

Somewhat unrelated: Which (if not all or none) classes or specs have no hard counters? Also, is there a grid of which classes/specs soft or hard counter others?

DKs are unkillable freaks

Spellwarding makes you immortal vs casters and chains of ice makes you immortal vs melee

For the LEAST-targeted in the arena? It depends on what is being played: An Evoker for example is a horrible kill target for melee, but casters can probably snipe with impunity due to outranging them.

I can’t speak much of actual 3v3 ladder experience, unfortunately.

In my experience in Solo Shuffle, healers are ironically some of the lowest-priority kill-targets (highest-priority CC targets). The main exception is if the healer has been proven to be slow or susceptible to target-swaps. From what I’ve seen, the ‘odd man out’ amongst DPS generally gets focused first: If there’s 3 casters and 1 melee, oftentimes the melee gets pinned down. And if there’s a shuffle with 3 melee and 1 caster…

Coincidentally, I’ve noticed ‘hybrids’ tend to get shafted by often (but not always!) being the focus target first and foremost. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none, I suppose. The HIGHEST priority DPS kill-targets I’ve noticed are picked from round 1, fresh out of the gate and without any knowledge (from top to bottom):

  1. Enh/Ele Shaman
  2. Ret paladin
  3. Windwalker Monk
  4. Arcane Mage
  5. Balance/Feral Druids

If none of the above are present, I’ve found that the priority progresses onwards to a ‘middle priority’ queue, which is usually lot more ‘skill-based’ (usually determined from prior rounds):

  1. All Hunters
  2. All Rogues
  3. Havoc Demon Hunters
  4. Arms Warrior
  5. Destro/Demon Warlocks

Otherwise, assuming things are relatively ‘balanced’, the LOWEST priority DPS kill-targets that I’ve seen have generally been:

  • Unholy Death Knights
  • Fury Warriors
  • Affliction Warlocks

For the few unlisted (such as Frost DKs, Devokers, etc.) they kind of just float about somewhere in the list - Personally, I haven’t seen enough of them to really gauge a ‘priority’ from them. Better to be a wildcard, I’d say.

Didn’t you hear? The nerfs to their self-healing made them unplayable! :dracthyr_cry_animated:

Venruki actually posted a video on his YT going over the stats of this yesterday, very interesting

Didnt make them unplayble just less fun. Most dk players say they would rather have taken a spellwarding nerf than a death strike one.

id say prolly fury warriors

That’s a tricky question.
Often times I pick targets for different reasons, and the train target is not always the kill target.

Example of this is mage or marks hunter. I don’t want to chase them around the arena, but left not pressured they would solo carry the game with control and burst.

Sometimes I’ll ride the affliction lock knowing I have no chance of killing him trying to survive a little longer, but just waiting for a chance to swap a healer trying to play aggressively with all the pressure afl generates.

Sometimes you have things like unholy dks that are impossible to escape, but are also immortal are kill targets just by pure lack of options. You either hit the dk or you don’t hit anything. Just by proxy of enough games they’ll try to get cute and pre-ams nothing and sometimes die.

There are always a few kill targets that are chosen because they are just easiest. Shaman and paladins come to mind.

I feel like I usually got ignored on Unholy.

Yeah Dks and warriors usally. Hunter always target.

Rarest is prolly UHDK or locks because they are just way too big and strong. SP also pretty beefy still and balance I tend to ignore because there’s no pressure from them and I don’t feel like fighting bears.

Most targeted are glass cannons - ele, rogue, hunter - anything that will delete you if you don’t and tend to flop under pressure. Ret actually as well although they can randomly hit you for 200k now so not as enjoyable.

Round 1 and 2 people guess
Round 3+ whomever didn’t play well and flopped over fast in round 1/2.

Example:

Before I figured out how to wear a shield and not die to a melee, if I got killed in round 1/2 I’d be trained the rest of the match.
Now I tend to not die as much or get targeted beyond the first round or two.

Still end up barely breaking even and often dropping CR, but at least I’m not dying right away.

With how much burst everyone has, SP isn’t that beefy, especially with melee glued to us.

Most classes that I will never target in Solo Shuffle:

UHDK
Demo
DH

Every other class is killable, these 3 are just god tier unkillable in Solo Shuffle. Now if this was actual 3s I would say you could communicate and kill the Demos pet twice and then Demo would be the kill target.

EDIT:
Classes I will target if I absolutely have to:
Arms/Fury Warr
Ele Sham
Spriest

I know people like hitting holy paladins.

Blood dk but I refuse to sit in a 30 minute que

Never get targeted as vengeance either probably because I have 1 million HP in meta form

True.

:frowning:

That said, if they don’t target me, it’s usually a win… so I get it.
