Hey guys! I’m returning to the game after a bit of a break and was trying to decide which class I should play. What I’m looking for is something not super spammy, that’s a heavy hitter (some bigger meatier hits aka numbers), is simple to play (so I can focus on mechanics), is a fighter (something that can facetank without being to glass Cannon no kite playstyle please), and while it’s not really required if it feels right some added flair would be cool (flashy abilities). What do you guys think fit this best?
Pally sounds as close to that as possible not super super spammy, can take hits, flair added to abilities.
I thought about pally because I messed around with one on classic, but it’s “meta build” sounds so complicated and I don’t like that haha.
so just pick a class you think looks cool then…
You just want to be an NPC Boss.
Not quite no lol I asked what would fit closest didn’t say it had to be exact
it sounded like you were wanting a God class, hence my response.
Warrior. Arms is incredibly simple and Condemn is hella meaty.
I took a break too decided to try Alliance and this toon will be mainly for PvP…so far I’m having a blast as a boomy…
it’s engaging and starsurge hits like a truck…
you also have the option of 3 other spec’s if you don’t like caster dps
I think Pally/Warrior both match your criteria.
I think going ‘hard’ on any class will require a bit of involvement but those two are the easiest to get into.
Absolutely love that ability and I think it’ll match OP.
OP doesn’t come off as a boomkin - it’s definitely the most durable caster but the play style of eclipses which while is easy enough to master don’t think matches him.
Having played a boomy too though, that feeling of pressing convoke into a fresh incarnation proc is
bliss. Also really enjoying that Twin Moons will be viable again in 9.1.
pally
Ret pala sounds like the ticket here
druid plays all 3 specs pretty decent , use feral for dps and you will find druid tank easy.
All plate melee dps and DH and monk fit you
Blood DK maybe?
Blood dk has an extremely simple play style. Timing death strikes and pooling runic power is about as complicated as their priority gets.
Can’t really kite well anyway though like all tanks at high key levels you have to. But in open world and mid ranged keys can face tank with the best of them.
Its rather slow and uses a two hander so its larger numbers (for a tank.)
do the dps specs not fit what i want more so than the tank?
If you’re looking for Big numbers on individual attacks, then you have a few options!
- Arms Warrior: Gets big numbers on Empowered Mortal Strikes, and Executes.
- Frost Mage: Glacial Spike has SATISFYING punch to it, and huge numbers.
- Marksman Hunter: Trueshot lets you use your hardest hitting Attack Back-to-back
- Retribution Paladin: It’s numbers are a little less big, but Templar’s verdict still packs a Wallop.
Again, a lot of options here. Some overlap.
-
Arms Warrior: You focus on your Auto Attacks, Using overpower when it activates for big damage, and buffing your Mortal Strike, and you can Execute low health targets.
-
Retribution Paladin: Very Simple. Attacks Generate Holy power, spend your Holy Power on Templar’s Verdict in order to break your opponents face open.
-
Marksman Hunter: Use Aimed shot as top priority, Arcane Shot after that. Don’t run out of Focus.
-
Frost DK: Hit what Lights up, Prioritize Obliterate, use Remorseless Winter for AOE.
-
Any Plate-Wearing class. Warrior Heals after every Kill. Paladin has a so many defensive buttons I have trouble binding them all to keys. Death Knight Also Heals on Kill and has great emergency defense.
-
Hunter, Beastmaster or Marksman: Your pet can Facetank very well if you remember to use Mend Pent frequently.
-
Demon Hunter: LEECH LIFE
Unpopular Opinion here: I think Warrior is flashy enough, I think Warcries and big hits are all i need.
But EVERY class in the game is flashy. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you for reading! Just ask if I can help with anything!
As others have said, Ret Pally or Arms Warrior seem to fit your criteria pretty well. Semi tanky, not spammy, hard hitting abilities.
So with paladin doesn’t all its meta talents make it harder to play? That’s what I heard anyways. Warrior could Def be cool I’ll give it a go. What about frost dk? Does it not hit as hard with obliterates anymore?
If that’s the case, I haven’t heard of it.
But, assuming you’re correct, and Paladin’s talents make it hard to play, then you should take these words to heart.
Unless you are pushing the absolute cutting edge of content, you don’t need to pick the absolute meta talents
Talents are supposed to be fun
Pick the Talents that make the class most enjoyable for you.
I’m the Main Tank player for my guild, and have been rocking Off-meta talents since I started playing.
Nobody is gonna criticize you for your talent choices. The People that DO criticize you aren’t gonna do it vocally, they’ll keep it to themselves.
Warrior is cool. But Arms warrior can be Slow paced.
When your not getting a lot of Procs, it can get a little spammy. Because you’ll want to spend your extra rage on Slam or Whirlwind.
I didn’t recommend Frost DK to you, ultimately because it’s VERY spammy. Obliterate hits really hard, and you get a lot of critical hits. But Frost DK can get incredibly button mashy when things are going your way.
Smashing Obliterate to spend runes, Frost Strike to manage Runic Power, and Howling blast whenever it procs. It can feel very spammy.
Edit: I just read Ret Paladin’s talents. It doesn’t get too complicated, but there are a lot of abilities that give you bonus damage for a short period of time.
