Which class does blizzard do the best job of delivering class fantasy on?

I’ve grown to like the Rogue the most, but I think it’s one of the most underdelivered class fantasies in the game. I need more things to unlock, traps to disarm, and things to sneak around. About the only places I get stuff like that is during the Legion Rogue quests… WHICH I CAN’T UNLOCK DURING THE PREPATCH EVENT. /Snarl.

How about you all?

In my view, none of them really. In terms of visuals, probably mage or warlock though. In terms of gameplay, I find it less compelling than good rpgs in that department because their combat design doesn’t give players many opportunities to figure out complex or interesting problems utilizing the unique spells and abilities of their classes. Except perhaps in raids? You’re not going to need to freeze something as a frost mage, or restore power to something as a lightning shaman, for example. But that’s my specific criteria. Yours may differ greatly.

They all love mages

It’s druid and it’s not even close. Druids get the most special treatment.

Warrior just because it’s really hard to mess up hitting things being your class fantasy.

I would say Paladin, Druid, and Warlock all get the most attention though. Shapeshift and Demon customization is really nice to have.

What are the criteria? Visuals? Skills? Lore? Special dialogs?

That’s not really a great interpretation of warrior class fantasy lol. But it does highlight just how badly the devs lack imagination when it comes to the class that “a guy who hits things” is basically what people think about warrior.

It’s a bit of a joke, though I think Blizzard hasn’t really ever had much of a vision for the class that goes beyond “it’s pretty much just a Fighter and Barbarian from D&D merged into a single class”.

Both of which in tabletop get meme’d on for being classes that “just hit stuff”.

Yeah it definitely feels confused.
We got a bit of Odyn / valarjar flavor in Legion, but the reception on that was always mixed since not everyone wants the semi-magical elements on a class where one of the major appeals is being the not magic guy.
We can’t really lean on “fighter” as an archetype in a game where everyone is balanced to perform equally well in combat.

If Blizzard brought back Brawler’s Guild in a big way and made THAT a central part of the Warrior’s class fantasy (think Keeshan having a tustle in the Inn’s basement back in Redridge), I think that’d do a lot to serve the Warrior class fantasy.

Having a special “warrior’s only” arena sprinkled everywhere throughout Azeroth and beyond would be pretty epic. Heck, they had a “Warrior’s Island” (or whatever it’s called) off the coast near Durotar and the Barrens since Vanilla which involved some Warrior quests to unlock additional stances.

That’d be pretty epic.

In current wow? none of them.

I would say Mage. They even brought back the old Frostfire Bolt with the… Frostfire hero spec.

Warlocks or Mages for sure.

A lot of the NPC characters that earn storytelling attention in the WoW universe certainly have mage or mage-like abilities (powerful characters in table-top RPGs tend to be some form of powerful spell-caster simply because the limits of what they can accomplish are necessarily fuzzy).

Of note, Shaman are sort of the “tribal” version of mages (or paladins, or priests…)

Why wouldn’t they? We have utility, damage, and a scholarly class fantasy, just like a wizard in Dungeons & Dragons.

they really dont do class fantasy of any class particularly well. the paladin is the only one I can think of that has any sort of solid history and lore, the rest seemed to be cobbled together.

Resto druid felt really druidy to me because they used all the forms.

Druid. Though, I am a druid fangirl so idrc what anyone says.

Not anymore D: RIP BOOMIE FORM that and nobody uses treant

The paladin class fantasy is still pretty good.
