Which Chromie Time?

So in retail, once you hit level 10- which Chromie Time/Expansion would you level in, and if you feel like sharing, why?

I created a new toon and am deciding- I think I may go Legion because it was the expansion I disliked the most, and so I played and explored it the least. Now that it’s been a while since Legion was released, I’m considering giving it a go. I’m also considering Pandaria.

So I’m just curious- where would you go?

Edit: Just want to clarify- thank you for the responses so far, I think everyone brings up a good point that it depends how you want to level, or what maybe your end goals are. I’m not so much looking for suggestions for myself, I’m just curious which expansion others would choose. I’m just looking to have some fun. I have the next 10 days off and I’m not doing anything, so thought it might be fun to make a new toon and explore some older content.

It really depends on how you want to level. I think WoD is still the best for straight open world leveling xp wise…but the worst dungeon queue wise.

For dungeon leveling, you’ll want classic or DF since that is where most of the people are.

It has been awhile, but Legion was always a good choice too.

I always go Cataclysm because the dungeons are better and I love the original zones after Deathwing destroyed/remade them.

However, I believe the faster way to level is Warlords because of the bonus areas and treasures every where.

Edit: Almost forgot. I think there is a potion that will boost exp gains that’s sold at your garrison.

It depends…

Warlords of Draenor for leveling speed.
Legion for Class Halls and Story.

Honestly, it depends what you like and how fast you want to go.
As previously mentioned the bonus objectives and treasures plus questing makes WoD pretty fast, but personally I find the expansion pretty boring and the Horde garrison is ugly as heck if you roll horde.

Loved MoP, will always love MoP, the vibe, the questings, most of the zones, although not all of them.

Legion is great if you like class flavor, since you get the class halls full of quests plus the artifact weapons and class mounts and mogs.

I have never done dungeon leveling, so I can’t speak to that per expansion.

Lots of reasons to run other expansions too, but overall it really depends on how quick you want to do it, or if you want to take it slow, enjoy the stories and quest chains etc. Also depends what mounts and mogs you want, or rep for any specific groups.

Oh I’m totally all for laid back. I’m a solo player so not looking to group up or raid or PVP or anything. Whether it takes me a week to level or 6 months, doesn’t matter, and I’m not looking to get much out of it. Just wanting to chill and have some fun playing and exploring content I either skipped, or didn’t spend much time with.

This is why I want to do Legion. It just introduced too many new elements to the WoW experience that I didn’t understand- like order halls and world quests among others. And all the changes were just too overwhelming for me. I understand their purpose now, but at the time I didn’t, and that had a significant impact on my experience playing those expansions.

But now that I’m older, wiser, more educated, more experienced… I’m considering giving it a second chance.

The correct answer is whatever expansion you feel like.

For me for purely leveling I do Cata until 35 so I can get all of the juicy classic dungeons then I swap to WotLK for it’s dungeons.

Warlords of Draenor

For all the hate it gets, Warlords was a great expansion in the beginning. All the bonus areas and treasures make leveling go by fast, it’s nice to have your garrison as a base of operations, and the annoying terrain is a non-issue when you can fly. The issue with Warlords wasn’t that the content was bad, it was that the content after launch was all but non-existent. But the actual content is very good, and I think Warlords has the best music of any expansion if that’s a factor.

If I’m ever going to level a new character again, I’ll probably just wait until the next Remix event.

But sticking to DF is probably a good idea if you like doing dungeons, since that’s bound to be the bracket with the most people randomly queuing in it.

Lately, I’ve been preferring to level through Cataclysm to revisit the old world (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdom). My other picks are usually either MOP or WOD because I liked the zone stories.

If it’s a class I never did the Legion content for I do Legion Timewalking.

Otherwise Alliance toons do Draenor while Horde toons to BFA because those are my favorite versions of those expansions.

I myself do WOTLK only because of the music in Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills as I grind, plus I have enough warbound gear stashed to where I can deck alts out in suitable enough gear to jump straight into TWW when I hit 70. However, if you’re not fully stacked like that I’d recommend DF. More people in it plus the quests give you decent enough ivl gear so when you do hit TWW you’re not terribly undergeared and getting smeared by mobs right out the gate.

It depends on my character’s story.

My Draenei Paladin went to Outlands to help out and hopefully find lost friends (all dead, very sad) and then Draenor to help out and maybe find a home again (which she did as well as a love).

My Blood Elf Blood Death Knight went to Northrend right out of the Scarlet Enclave to get revenge on Arthus for turning her into a Death Knight.

My Night Elf Feral Druid plays in zones where Hemet Nesingwary is because she like to hunt.

And so on.

But if I don’t have an idea of who a character is, I like to play them thru the nearest to their starting area Eastern Kingdoms and/or Kalimdor zones until I have an idea and then go from there.

I have two characters in Legion right now and I will admit I find the questing less than… ideal.

I think it is because I have to spend so much time flying up and down and up and down. The continual interruption makes it hard to enjoy the World and the story.

Azsuna was probably the most enjoyable. Loved the academy area.

I love questing thru Kun-Lai Summit. And the Dread Wastes.

Heck, all the zones are fun to quest thru.

If story doesn’t matter, I would go with Pandaria.

Alright I’m glad it’s not just me who feels that way about Legion. I leveled an alt through there once and thought the exact same thing. All the back and forth made it hard for me to focus on and enjoy the story.

From what I remember, WOD is the fastest leveling via quests. I think BFA has the best gold rewards from selling crap you collect during leveling. I like the zones personally in Cata, Wrath, Legion, and SL (Mal and Revendreth).

I would often just stand at Chromie and cycle through expansions if queues were slow or I felt like I did all the quests in dungeons. I rarely go out and quest since I got Loremaster but I do like to fly around the Barrens in chromie time with war mode on. A lot of rares spawn there, they’re usually up because it’s a fresh zone, they give a ton of xp if you’re rested and it was a good way to get some low level mogs cause they all drop greens.

No you certainly aren’t alone. I see Legion as the “spaghetti” expansion: they threw all the spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick, and it just became overwhelming and took away from the overall gameplay experience. Every expansion ever since has suffered as a result.

I’m tired of borrowed power. I’m tired of constantly having to farm sh… crap. I’m tired of class halls, order halls, mission tables, followers… the game is no longer really enjoyable. It’s a chore. I can’t even do the things I want to do because in order to do the things I want to do, I need to spend 9,000 hours a week farming, grinding, running dungeons, leveling followers, progressing through mission tables. Then maybe… maybe I’ll have time to do things at the end of the day or week that I want to do. But how can I have time to enjoy the game when I’m so busy doing all this other crap I don’t want to do?

Ugh. So frustrating.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk :joy:

If you want a slower pace, try The Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King.

If you want a nice story and more modern questing, try Mists of Pandaria or Legion.
