Because I’m not installing that spyware bloatware crap from Overwolf, and Curseforge is also apparently done with addons-- is there another host site or am I SIL at this point unless I (won’t) install said bloatware?
look up Wowup io
recommending everyone to do it that doesnt like managing addons yourself
Will do, thanks!

still has WoW addons on it. The DBM page there was updated ten minutes ago as of this post. Is there an article somewhere that says they’re discontinuing?
I’m going to go look at Wowup io, though, this is the second time I’ve heard a recommendation.
Yah, is there something that says curseforge is going away? I never used addon software and really have no idea how any of that stuff works.
They were sold TO Overwolf, which (as I understand it), is forcing Curse to stop updating addons soon to funnel players into the Overwolf app. No thanks.
I see. Bad to hear but good to know.
Yeah, I’m on r/WoW lurking a bit, and this was big news a few weeks ago before I decide to resub. To do so, I need to update my addons, but Overwolf is a pretty shady company and I’d rather not have them spamming up my PC with adware and the like.
WoWUp does literally what CurseForge does but without the adds and bloatware.
WoWHead advertised it awhile ago and it’s still solid.
Do you mean that it’s no longer going to be possible to manually download addons from curseforge? Or is it just their installer app that’s going away?
Been a long time since I used an installer/updater app, but I’ll admit this kind of sounds convenient.
That’s what I’m wondering too because I just manually download and install the addons without software.
I was super hesitant, too, but had a bunch of people in a discord tell me to try it and I immediately don’t regret it.
Have had zero issues since I got it and I get to be lazy with my addons again without feeling like I’m giving Amazon/Another Huge Company free ad revenue.
The installer app will now be Overwolf. It -seems- as though manual installs may also be going away, but that might have been delayed for the first few weeks of SL. h

Plus a few hundred more threads on reddit (with article links in some cases) about the whole thing. All I know is the vast majority of players warn against Overwolf because of adware and some other crappy info-selling they do, and I’d just rather not if I can avoid it with a simpler, less intrusive app.
I booked marked WoWup so if I can’t manually download addons from curse anymore I’ll look into it. I run pretty light on addons with most of mine being RP related but I do run a few for gameplay reasons.
I just dl’ed it and it’s nice, simple, and works quickly-- so if Curse does eventually nix their manual updates, I would recommend it from the 15 minutes or so I’ve used it
I was nervous about it too having been gone for a year and some change, but as Wolf said, I found wowup io and its been super helpful and amazing.
Highly recommend. Even more so, I still wasn’t sure if I had picked the right one but seeing Wolf respond right away with it makes me feel better about the choice.
Just wanted to say thanks for this post, was not looking forward to having to use Overwolf. Wowup is looking like it might actually be a superior alternative to Overwolf. Wish I had known about this earlier, would rather have used it instead of Twitch.
does twitch not work anymore?
No, twitch doesn’t do addons anymore, they sold out to Overwolf.
I’m just gonna chime in here and say that I’m pretty happy with WoWUp. It was simple to install, is very lightweight, and does exactly what I need it to do. It has no bloatware or ads, which I find particularly refreshing. I’ve been using it for weeks now and I am very happy to use this as an addon manager.
*edited because I’m OCD and found a missing letter…I’d like to solve the puzz…I mean, all done!
