Where's Chromatus?

I legit thought he was going to be the last boss of Dragonflight, either him or Galakrond.

Needless to say, I’m a bit disappointed.

Wouldn’t have guessed Fyrakk would have been the last boss of this entire expansion.

He’s a decent villain, but in no way as terrifying as a beastly, five-headed, chromatic dragon crafted by Deathwing, albeit lifeless, and finally brought to life by the Twilight Cult.

I was really hoping we’d see him in Abberus as the final boss, but the void stuff was nice too.

Maybe they should’ve gone the old route and made a special room for an encounter with him, like with Algalon or Lady Sinestra/Sintharia.

It also would have been a perfect time to tie the Void and Dragonflight storylines together for the next expansions to come.

I think someone got an idea for a post after reading a lil post I made
(not calling you out or anything but thanks for furthering the discussion!)

Seriously there’s a lot of unused potential with the lore, it needs to be addressed lol.

Yes, yes it does.
There’s also another plot hole
In BFA, a Cult of Ragnoros were trying to ressurect him, but when asked where the elected firelord Smolderon was, they said “all in due time”

AND THE ALL IN DUE TIME HE COMES BACK IN DF AS A BOSS IN THE FINAL RAID

WHAT THE FU-

Chromatus remains to this day too difficult to animate it seems.

But back on track, FUN FACT
In Grim Batol, the Trogg were initially going to be the “Skardyn”. They were first mentioned in Day of the Dragon and are cursed Dark Iron dwarves with scaly skin. However, in the GB dungeon, their models were Troggs in beta, and were just replaced by Troggs.
And they haven’t been seen since then. Hopefully we can see them in War Within.

Steve Danuser wrote DF, it was his “baby” and fortunately his send off too. He hated old wow lore, so much so he damaged Arthas’s final fate at the end to laughable levels, simped over sylvannas hardcore, etc etc. He could never write good at all.

Yeah I feel if they ever do a Chromatus fight it would function similar to Megaera from throne of Thunder. In the sense that you simply fight his heads. But that would be also similar to Madness of Deathwing.

I found DF very VERY uninteresting and boring. And it contained the Danuser classic of “SHE IS JUST MISUNDERSTOOD AND A GOOD GUY!” thing with the Frost Incarnate, its boring and dull. I do not like Steve Danusers lore, Metzen has some problems, yes, but he made so much iconic Lore. And Danuser pooed on it with Shadowlands and pooed on the most iconic villain in WoW history. Screw his MCU BS lore.

I had to go back and reread to figure out who Chromatus was. I completely forgot about that book.

This sounds the most plausible as to why we haven’t seen him:

It is possible that Chromatus was originally planned to be a boss in Dragon Soul but was replaced by Ultraxion for some reason, perhaps because animating a multi-headed dragon proved to be too difficult for the developers. Chromatus simply disappears from the story after the events of Twilight of the Aspects, despite the book’s ending hinting that he would return in the near future, and Ultraxion drops a chromatic drake mount. This could also explain why the Twilight’s Hammer are present in the Eye of Eternity in Dragon Soul, as Chromatus was imprisoned in an Arcane Prison, technology of the blue dragonflight.

I think it would be cool if we saw him again. WoW has a tendency to have important events seen in only books, not in game.
I think if they introduced some sort of Bronze dragon quests where you could see events like the sacking of stormwind in the First War or the Rise of the Horde in MU. That would be cool tho take a lot of work.

Chromatus busy being inanimate.

Forget if that critter is even canon or not at this point.

I thought Dragonflight was confirmed as getting cut early?
Or at the very least without a next ‘big’ content-patch until the next expansion? :open_mouth:

I mean, I could be wrong about that – I know they said we’re getting fated raids etc, and there’s some small sums of content; but you know what I mean …

steve da snoozer was the issue.

Hopefully metzen stops the disney crap and we go back to orcs ripping humans heads off.

If you believe certain rumours, Fyrakk wasn’t intended to be, but the story was changed and redirected towards that being the end result after 10.1 finished development… or something. Who knows, truly?

Not going to lie I did think we’d see Galakrond as a boss but all we saw of the behemoth was his corpse. I mean I’m also surprised the Primalists stayed the big bads for the entire expansion as in like BFA we started out hating on each other but then out of nowhere Nzoth was the big bad. Fyrakk got done dirty though… guy got the Zovaal treatment in that we’d never heard of him before, he got powered up, and put down in the same expansion.

there was a vyranoth raid in azure span that was cut & cant forget proto trolls.

Then they pull a Blizzard on us and pull the whack-a-mole hydra again. And frankly, no. rigging and animating a five-headed dragon, while not easy, is by no means actually hard as people make it out to be. You mainly need a unique body model.

Any source other than “trust me bro”?

To be fair having seen Galakrond in dawn, hes too huge to be a boss and they dont wanna try another “Deathwing” size fight again. They would have to do what FFXIV did with Bahamut and create an “inner avatar” of him same way they did with N’zoth then it would feel less epic.
