I loved playing SOD and to cut its life short without a classic 2 or + was a bit of a slap in the face.
I’m now all over the shop, hopping on retail, looking at this private server ascension that everyone is raving about.
What I don’t get is how can some random team of like 3 people produce a classic new title and the entire of blizzard say classic + releases in 2026 some time maybe 2027……

It says right in the name: Season of Discovery. Anything beyond a typical, temporary season is just gravy. I get wanting more but the mere existence of seasonal is more imo.
Maybe just more seasons. Maybe something more permanent like the mythical C+. What if the SoD Era is the plus and they add a bit once in a while? Still not enough, huh?

Phase 8 and Kara Kyrpts was solid new content, though. They cut it off once they finally got to the part everyone wanted from the start!
SoD from the beginning stated it was an experimental server. This COULD or COULDN’T lead to a new form of WoW. And based on how bad the population tanked in the beginning, it wouldn’t be a very popular option.
You really with a straight face gonna act like Blizz didn’t publicly sabotage an otherwise thriving SoD just to herd people to their MoP cash shop? Because that happened.
SoD was alive until a very active decision was made to kill it.
lets be honest right, most people disagreeing with this would be blizzard employees pulling a hell divers dev response. A bit of a tip for you, instead of responding with ego towards your player base, try not making everything about jump to the next release for store benefits.
There is a ton of time between seasons, which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I feel as though they could have just done Era servers and a Ladder season server that resets, and characters transfer to Era. That would be a lot less work, and it would give everyone something to do.
Anyway, I guess I didn’t realize it at the time, but I suppose Anniversary is considered a “Fresh” or next season.

It had a peak population of 400k for 1 week. And dropped to sub 100k within a month… If that doesn’t tell you how utterly unpopular the server was, idk what will.

That’s because blizzard developers are bad at making stuff. That’s why they rerelease old stuff instead. The retail team is good but the classic people are not seasoned creative developers nor do they have good ideas

Blizz has said nothing about Classic+. But we know the Classic team is working on that Chinese only wrath server for the next year.
I’m just casually questing on a low pop Era server. It’s fun. No rush. Just enjoying a great game.
I do agree it’s kinda sad that private servers continue to put Classic to shame. Billion dollar company getting upstaged by people doing this in their spare time.
