Fire spec has lost Cone Of Cold. Any particular reason?
Obviously it was done to make you mad, duh.
Its disappointing rather than raging. But every person has that limit somewhere. Even the joker, who took it away.
It got Dragon’s Breath instead, which is arguably much, much better. It’s a stun/disorient which makes it miles better for both PvP and M+. Meanwhile Arcane gets… mana?
I agree Cone should be baseline for all specs. Im getting slows from Frostbolt, Ring Of Frost, Blastwave and Soulshape will get snare too in 9.1. And yet I still miss it after 10 years of it being a part of Fire kit. I can live without it though. Maybe add 3 sec snare after Breath you can Talent into, in future. MoP alpha had Dragon’s Breath for every spec as Talent option btw.
Every spec having Cone of Cold, Dragon’s Breath and having access to scorch…made no sense from spec point of view.
Frost has Cone of Cold, fire DB and arcane has slow.
You have extremely different way of approaching the combat situations in WoW. But I do understand it. Completely.
As others have said, a disorient every 20s is better than a slow every 20s.
Fire having CoC will not be balanced at all, already having access to Ring of Frost, which was a frost-only spell in the past.
So yeah, from spec-fantasy and balance stand point, that’s my opinion.
I don’t think every mage spec has ever had dragon’s breath at any point in WoW history aside from maybe a frostfire build in wrath
Exactly, never. But Cone of Cold, Ice Barrier, Ring of Frost, have been given to Fire and Arcane at some point.
I remember when blizz gave Ice Barrier to Fire and Arcane… I was like hell no!. Then in Legion each spec got his own barrier which makes more sense.
So you dont want to move after 1 second? You want to stun as after we cant move so that you can pretend you have skills as a mongo melee doing mongo things, while remaining to be mongo until the next Roman fall?
What the hell? This is my main. The only melee spec I play is Frost DK. I like range specs (Spriest, Demo lock and MM hunter) so much more than melee.
You need to slow a target? You have frostbolt, ring of frost, frost nova, dragon’s breath to keep distance. And scorch below 30% hp if you take the talent.
And with those barriers came the removal of the always passive Frost/Mage/Molten Armors, which was in itself one of the biggest defensive nerfs Mages have ever received. Also the Arcane/Fire shields are deliberately tuned to be weaker than Ice Barrier, so it was a double nerf for those two specs.
Blizz gave us pixely spec-theme shields at the cost of flat out removing three abilities and nerfing two specs. Worst change in years.
Fire and Arcane barriers are weaker than ice barrier yeah, do you remember that only frost has a barrier in the first place?, fire and arcane did not.
I agree on the armors though. It was a bad idea to remove them.
Mages used to have the most mobility in game the game, now we have one of the least.
The armor from the old shield system was waaaay stronger
We also lost frost jaw, deep freeze, blazing speed and PoM poly. All used for control and or kiting
It went from Cone of Cold to Lukewarm Cone and now it just melted completely.
DB has always been Fire only but CoC and Scorch were class-wide for half the game. Why does it make sense at all for classes to forget spells? Just because it isn’t a part of your ST raid rotation doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know it.
Scorch is fantastic if Talented at lvl 15. One just has to keep in mind target is 30% HP or less. Could work similar with Brain Freeze and Clearcasting aswell. Every spec has so many dead Talents its unreal.
Not to mention more than half of all the talents are just abilities/passives that use to be baseline.
