I have been having an itch to play wow the last month or so after not playing since I leveled up and unlocked dark iron dwarves in BFA then stopped playing for who knows what reason back then.
So last week I installed the game and began grooming my DK and relearning the class and catching it up to 70 which I hit on Monday. Yesterday did some anniversary stuff and today bought War Within.
Right from the get go I was pretty annoyed with a bug on the quest going into the sewers of Dalaran where I couldn’t free the webbed victims. I had to abandon the quest and log out for about 30 minutes. So that was a minor setback.
I do enjoy how my 30 slot bags aren’t just stacked to the brim with crap because there aren’t nearly as many useless drops.
The biggest thing I’ve noticed so far, unless I missed something big, is gear while leveling in WW is basically non-existent. I’ve done every quest in the northern half of the Isle of Dorn this evening and all I’ve found is a rare spawn dropped a chest piece, a 1-h axe and a 2-h axe from the items you can find in the world that show up as silver chests, and two quests gave gear pieces. I looked all over the city for a vendor that took the tokens you get from questing but it’s all level 80 or cosmetic. I’m just confused because I’m still rocking some of the gear I got when I got the “gear upgrade” upon login which is for level 45.
I did a dungeon which I kept up with the other dps but just barely, and I’m not struggling to kill anything but I still feel super weak.
Welcome back!
Heh. That’s because you didn’t play Dragonflight. My bags were packed with stuff that I didn’t quite know what it was for but better not throw it away just in case.
So I cleared all that out at the end of DF. Yay! And now they’re filling up again.
That’s not great, but I’d also wonder how you got to 70 without upgrading level 45 gear.
I haven’t seen any complaints from people about gear while levelling, or for that matter about scaling when levelling. I remember the scaling being way off in BfA. They have certainly adjusted it a lot since then, and they also scale for gear now, which is probably why you’re not feeling a problem.
You might be able to pick up some bargains at the AH.

Definitely check the ah, even for Dragonflight blues or greens that are affordable to give you a better stat baseline to quest and do tier 1 to 3 Delves, cuz some 70 gear is gonna be incredibly expensive. The quests in Dorn that follow the campaign story should give you a piece here and there, but iirc they start along the south and west edge where Dalaran crashes and in the small town where you help injured Earthen next to Earthcrawl Mines. If you can get your ilvl up a little, Tier 1 delves shouldn’t be too hard if you pull slowly and try to 1v1 as much as possible at first.

I did do the first level of the delve in Isle of Dorn without any issues. Like I said, did a dungeon. I forgot to mention, I only played about three hours and including the 30 minute setback in Dalaran I was 74 when I logged out last night.
I intend on doing the lower half of the zone today and we will see what gear comes with that. I did check the AH and prices are interesting.
Again, my character isn’t struggling in the slightest, just find it weird that virtually every quest gives tokens on WW and next to no gear when what I remember is it was rare a quest didn’t give a piece of gear.
I feel ya. I’ve been leveling my Warrior 70-80 for a couple days and feel super weak. Everything in the AH that says “Level 70” while having the “usable items only” toggled on appears to be bugged, because when you check the gear at the buyout screen it says “Level 80”.
I realized that it was my progression style that was keeping me from gearing proportionately. I tend to follow the campaign questline until it changes to a new zone, then I spend a while on side quests before continuing to the next zone and campaign storyline. Turns out the campaign questline rewards you with proportionate gear while side questing usually just gives XP, Rep, Currency. Some side quests give you usable gear. Chests, and rare mobs too, but the grind is rough. I just followed the campaign storyline and the gear rewards made me feel a lot more competitive until level 80 then just top off at the AH.
