So, I’m running SoO for transmog/mount, and as I’m trying to finish my coffee before starting Galakras encounter, I hear some banter between Sylvanas and Lor’themar.
…and Sylvanas is…funny?!
SHE’S CAPABLE OF HUMOR?!?!
How did we go from “joking with an old Elf buddy” to “burning down a city because someone slightly dissed me”?

Oh great… Another anti Sylvanas thread.
No, just more of a “what happened” question.
It’s not just that she has a sense of humor in SoO, but she actually has energy in her voice. In BfA, it sounds like she’s half asleep when speaking.

Complex trauma, is complex.
Well, to be fair, she was joking about raising dead blood elves. It’s not as dramatic a change as it might sound.

She gave up her burgeoning comedy career to become a professional mustache twirler.

During Childrens Week your child will want to go and see Sylvanas. After the encounter Sylvanas laughs. Yes, Sylvanas actually laughs.
I love Sylvanas so much.

That Warchief chair is cursed, those who sit in it are doomed to villainy.
I thought her twisted sense of humor came through pretty well in the Battle of Lorderon cinematic.
You mean where she threatens to raise the Blood Elves as undead? Oh that Sylvanus what a kidder…oh wait.
She was still slightly maybe redeemable as a character during SoO. Actually, pretty much up until Legion when Vol’jin asked her to keep the Horde alive and she sounded the retreat with what looked like genuine turmoil and regret, everything was copacetic. She did what she had to, even what others found questionable, to help her people (the Forsaken) survive.
Then she never did a single thing of use or merit again. The rest of Legion had her seeking power for herself so she’d be spared the Shadowlands for a while longer or just sitting the conflict out entirely while the world burned around her (except for screeching about Greymane’s forces every time I passed a warden tower WQ), and everything descended into pure maddening villainy from there.
I don’t know, really, why they decided to make her so laughably evil, murmuring about “killing hope” while making bedroom eyes at Nathanos and murdering anything she can get away with, friend or enemy. I don’t know why they hired an accomplished author like Christie Golden to help flesh out a ravening evil monster of a paranoiac despot intent on world domination that really should be the far deeper, more interesting tragic character we fought Arthas alongside and deposed Garrosh with. I don’t know why a lot of things are like they are.
I just know that I don’t like Sylvanas, or, at least, not anymore. There’s nothing redeemable about the character anymore, and aside from the possibility of some hackneyed redemption-through-sacrifice arc, she’s destined for the “former leader deposed by the Horde to better its ability to survive” treatment of Garrosh and Blackhand the Destroyer.
Oh you’re still here? I kinda hoped you’d perished.
You’d make a very attractive corpse…
Yep, in the Battle for Lordaeron cinematic she is smiling and trolling the Alliance leaders. She is having a good time making them out to be fools.
I really liked Sylvanas’s character in Cataclysm and MoP. The trouble with BfA is that they completely butchered all of the interesting characters like Baine and Sylvanas and gave them terrible whiny personalities.
