I really don’t understand why they removed exorcism! It was fun, I was really glad they brought it back. It wasn’t even required for other abilities in the talent tree so it wasn’t hurting anyone. People could just talent into it IF THEY WANT TO, completely optional. Now it’s gone again, for no reason. It should have just stayed as an optional talent.
Also side note, we really should get that Wings of Liberty leap, that would be really fun and make paladin wings actually do something.

I just noticed this to after someone pointed it out. Not playing ret again until it gets added back lol. Like there is zero point to playing ret without one of the more iconic abilities exclusive to the class.
At least prot is still cool. And throwing my shield around has always been fun. But yah, one of the most exciting things about ret paladins, is gone. Again.

I dont understand this weird obsession with exorcism. It was just a quick damage ability. It’s graphics are meh. It didnt work with other abilities. It was just “there” It was just an extra button press for no reason other than to have a button press. Ret is better off with it pruned.

did yall really have to necro a 3 month old thread?
good riddance? DF exo did nothing of value and exo turned into boj in legion. effectively the same now in df. legit wrath is right around the corner, play that if you really want exo back

It sounded really cool though. Really cool. In my op it did. Especially when it hit the target.
Different strokes for different folks though. I thought it was amazing. But I see no point in playing ret until exorcism is back.
Even the dragonflight edition wasn’t to bad sounding. But the old was better. But, even still, they got my hopes up. Now I wont be playing ret.

What would you rather have me do. Create another thread lol.

Agreed. It’s a neat, thematic ability that should’ve stayed.
Agree entirely. I don’t understand this terrible mentality of “I don’t like this ability, so remove it.” A much better design thought process is “I don’t like this ability, so improve it.” If the complaint was that Exorcism didn’t feel impactful enough to warrant being its own button, then an easy solution could’ve been “your next holy power spender on an Exorcised target will refund one holy power.” Easy. The rotation is too bare now without it.

I just cannot get over this change. And I didn’t even realize it was gone. But yah, no point in playing ret paladin again, as this was the big reason to try it out again for me.

Actually i would beg to differ, “Exorcism” was not just an extra button to press. On the contrary the ret your looking at today is a hybrid semi range/melee/Dot. Means with Judgment, Blade of Justice, Hammer of Wrath had ranged aspect and obviously we know were the melee aspect of it comes from. But with “Exorcism” being brought back as a DOT and also synergizing with our concentration to while multiple mobs are within and Exorcism is to be cast the DOT would spread to said mob. Now if anybody played ret in past conc was useless to press just waste of space this integration gave it meaning to press.
So what happened…well “to many buttons” ppl do not apparently know about macros. With that said during the class re-work ppl on this forum such as yourself advocated to remove unnecessary useless spells and reduce clutter. Hence why now we have DOT’s from self applying nodes coming from the Ret tree as well as conc and you get to Spam a Execute ability like “Hammer of Wrath” that looks aesthetically EXACTLY like what we already have called “Judgment” just a smaller variant can barely see at times. I mean what the hell why get rid of HoW with talents and S2 tier set ur just throwing hammers all over hell, instead of Exorcism playing its part with conc and increase DOT potential gameplay and variation.

You can’t sequence spells, the best you can do is make it so that if 1 spell is unavailable it cast the other one but the sequence of our abilities IS/WAS important so it would be/have been counter-productive to do that.
The only thing that was macroable was AW with Trinkets since it was off-GCD.
What y’all should be asking for is Exorcism to replace BoJ or a glyph that does this.
There is a trend of downsizing button bloat across classes that seems consistent with Blizzard taking steps to move their games to both PC and consoles.
Wouldn’t be surprised if those changes were for an eventual port and chances are they will, you better brace for even fewer buttons to press…

If you didnt even notice it was gone, wouldnt that just show how obsolete of an ability it was???

So, you didn’t even notice it was gone until someone else pointed it out but it being missed was so terrible that you won’t play ret.
Weird

I hadn’t played paladin class since the dragonflight pre patch to be honest. So when I came back to playing him recently, and noticed it was gone, after fiddling around a bit with the tree. Because I saw couldn’t see it in the tree. But the post I saw confirmed it was indeed gone.
I still found it stupid. And I decided to drop my paladin plans a second time. Paladin wasn’t the first class I wanted to level up in dragonflight, but it was one of the first ones I tested during the pre patch. And the only thing that even sparked my interest in playing during the pre patch was the exorcism talent coming back.
So coming back to playing again, after finishing up other projects, I felt like the time was right to level up my paladin, I couldn’t get into it. Made no sense. I lost all interest with the loss of exorcism.
But Yah. I honestly didn’t really notice because I had set my paladin aside to level up other classes instead of priority. Trust me. I would have found out the moment I tried to play ret again friend lol. If you think you got me, you didn’t get me. I would have noticed eventually. I just hadn’t really played the paladin since the pre patch.
Again. I can’t stress enough that this was the whole appeal of dragonflight to me. Exorcism was the sole reason I came back to ret during the pre patch. Along with alot of other stuffs to other classes to. And now, with all the nerfing going on. Just seems like dragonflight is going back to boredom mode. With every class getting like 3 buttons to press.
I would have noticed eventually. The only reason I even played ret to begin with during dragonflight pre patch was because of the exorcism ability coming back.
I honestly dropped my paladin in favor of leveling up other classes in DF first. But now, I see no reason to even level up in dragonflight as a ret paladin now when I get around to it. I dunno. Just a stupid change. Will probably just go prot, as I have in the last few expacs that didn’t have exorcism spell as an option. It just ruins the point of playing ret period in my op. I was leveling my huntard first. I tried out all the classes in the df pre patch.
And now, of course, they are nerfing everything else to. Like observers on warlocks for instance. And everyone in their mother is talking about that. I just seem to be the only one who liked exorcism. That is what it truly seems like. I mean, I might not have noticed straight away, but If I was playing my paladin in recent months, I would have noticed instantly. I dunno. I guess everyone HATES the exorcism spell lol. I am the only one who likes it. But that is how it is when you are in the minority on something now isn’t it.
I mean, and yah. To heck with ret at this point lol. I don’t even count it. Paladins only have 2 specs now as far as I am concerned. Prot and holy are the only paladin specs now to me.
Ret was a spec until exorcism got removed for a second time.
Why do you care so much about Exorcism anyways? The DF version of Exorcism wasn’t anything like the old one. It was more like an AoE dot with some minor direct damage.
And the old was just really really bad. So much so that there are a ton of raid logs from WoD in which Exo wasn’t used even once during an entire boss fight. Probably the reason why Blizzard got rid of it. It was barely even worth pressing when everything else was off cooldown.
bringing logs and logic into this, how daaaare u /s

I honestly felt like the exorcism spell was one of the best and coolest paladin abilities personally. I just really liked it.
It was nice to have it to click it and use it on enemies. Was it the best ability. No. Did it do insane damage or whatever. No. But I loved the sound effect it made when it hit. It sounded so cool to me.
The one in dragonflight wasn’t as good or as cool, but it carried the same spirit. I dunno. I liked it alot.
I feel like blizzard removing it because nobody used it. I don’t understand that logic. I mean, sure not alot of folks used it. But there were some who did use it. Myself included. It was more a case, in my op, especially in dragonflight, when it was an optional talent anyways, that you could just click elsewhere. It wasn’t really broken until blizzard decided to fix/remove it in this case. I don’t understand why blizzard can’t just let things be.
Especially in dragonflight. I didn’t care that it was broken and did jack all. I was pressing it constantly every time I walked into battle when I was able. Just to hear the cool sound effect. You could faintly hear it in dragonflight. I mean, I will put it this way. If no one 100% liked the ability, I could understand it getting removed. But not everyone didn’t use it. I used exorcism all the bloody time back in the day. And I still would now. But I can’t even now even if I wanted to.
I mean, for example. I liked the super mario bros movie 1993. I know, blasphemy. But I thought it was cool. Not alot of people liked it. I guess someone should just raid everyone’s houses who did like it and remove it from them. So they can’t watch it anymore. That is kind of how I feel about exorcism spell getting removed. I just feel like retribution spec is getting robbed of one of the main reasons I found it fun. Just because there weren’t alot of players who liked it. Saying no one liked it or no one used it is a lie. There were people who liked exorcism as a paladin spell. That doesn’t mean blizzard should take it away from those who did like the ability just because the majority didn’t like the ability.
Just frustrating. It is a literal shot the the gonads on my male b elf paladin. And because of that, I refuse to use the ret spec. When my favorite ability is gone, I don’t see the point in playing that spec. Prot still has avenger’s shield. Removing exorcism is the equivalent of removing avenger’s shield in my op. I would never play prot again after that either lol.
But at that point I would probably just retire my paladin entirely, as I hate healing. On any class.
