I know people don’t want blizzard to bring him back because they will mess him up but that’s a different issue. I mean, we are literally in the place people get sent when they die AND we have already been to the Maw and Torghast where the worst of the worst go, so again with that being said, where is he? Are we literally going to go through an entire expansion about the AFTERLIFE without seeing or hearing about him?

The Kyrian campaign talks about him a lot. So much that I strongly believe he is coming back based on how much he is mentioned in their campaign.

Arthas and Anduin will meet up at some point. Arthas will make some comment about how he sees his former self in Anduin, and how he wishes to help free the young king from the Jailer’s control.
Arthas, Proudmoore and Uther will team up once more. It will be that moment that some WoW fans will cream themselves over.

There’s a lot of souls in the Maw. It’s a little hard to cherry pick a specific one in all of that.
But in the end right now we have no reason to search for him. Finding Arthas isn’t relevant or helpful in the battle against Zovaal. No one on our side is interested in seeing him either, he’s wildly unpopular. Even Uther admitted Arthas didn’t deserve the unfair Maw sentence, but he showed no interest in looking for him.
And now we’re about to zip off to another land. So I think it’s really unlikely we’ll return to the Maw to find Arthas for some odd reason just to make a cameo.

To the extent that if someone from Bliz read this I could see the mad scramble to somehow make it not quite like this in order to claim that they have a little more originality than that.

This is the sort of question to ask when we get the final tuning patch of the expansion and both hall of fames are closed (aka the expansion is over).
Shadowlands still has time left to deliver 9.2 (but not 9.3) and if Blizz wants to show Arthas then it will probably happen.
I’m more curious where Varian is?

He’s in Anduin’s sword. He’ll probably be released in the next major patch once Sylvanas manages to break the sword, freeing Arthas who then admits everything is his fault and how Sylvanas is blameless for everything.

Blizzard has disclosed that there are more realms in the Shadowlands than just the 4 which are portrayed in this expansion, so perhaps he was sent to another realm or he could also be in the Maw somewhere and could have a cameo in 9.2 where hopefully we save Anduin somehow.
