Where does all lore come from?

Where do Dwarfs, Gnomes, Elfs, Faeries etc come from? Is it Greek Mythology? Hybrid of books like Lord of the Rings? DnD? I have always wondered how they all came to be?

European folklore. Fairy tales etc

You could probably find almost all fantasy creatures somewhere in a worlds religion and/or folklore. Tolkien really set the precedent of using them in fantasy though

blizz pulls from a combination of different sources, Naga for example is African i believe. Dwarves are more of a Nordic race like vikings.

Ok… so stuff like all Dwarves’ like Mining for jewells… Elfs have long pointy ears. A lot of that is Tolkien?

alot yes, Tolkien is well known for doing what few writers have done in the sense he created his own unique world with languages and stuff.

Some Lovecraft also.

Read Norse mythology and Tolkien. Pretty much the bedrock of high fantasy as far as I know.

you grow lore on a lore tree

He used to play EQ… not familiar with his writings. I heard “Dark Elves” were modeled from him.

Yup, alot of these fantasy race tropes are sourced from him in one way or another. He was a brilliant writer and is basically the father of world building

Well It’s all a combination of accumulation. And with the touch here and there of originality. Overall well done IMO. Our recent and distant ancestors would be so jealous of this creation.

Cool!

Love your name, by the way.

Dwarves and Elves are from Norse Mythology, but the versions in WoW are taken from Lord of the Rings.

Faeries are general European folklore, but particularly Celtic.

most of the wow lore is lifted from mythology

And Ardenweald is a lot of Celtic mythology.

Hey, someone read my fanfiction!
