Where do we go from here?

We’ve gone from fighting each other on Azeroth to invading the realm of death.

Story-wise I’m concerned on how we move forward from here. Our biggest concerns used to be farming each other for honor in Alterac Valley for literal days. Now we’re fighting to ensure that reality isn’t unmade.

I honestly don’t know how you can raise the stakes any further than unmaking reality.

Can the next expansion just be us on a post apocalyptic Azeroth, super depowered, maybe integrating the neutral allied Ogre race into our factions (or removing factions)?

I probably speak for the minority but I preferred it before our characters were conjoined-soul-twins with a planet.

Three options they can choose:

  1. Admit error, hire new writers in a visible way with professional background in the different areas that incorporate WoW’s universe (Black fiction, “Traditional” Wester/Euro fantasy, Indigenous folklore, Lovecraftian horror, European period fantasy, Tolkien, etc), “Realm reborn” WoW, begin planning expansions in detail 10 years in advance, internal standard that A Plot can never be cut, B plot should not be cut, C plot is disposable and non-essential

  2. Admit error, hire new writers in a visible way with professional background in the different areas that incorporate WoW’s universe (Black fiction, “Traditional” Wester/Euro fantasy, Indigenous folklore, Lovecraftian horror, European period fantasy, Tolkien, etc), but create a narrative “reason” for why the player character is “back to zero” so to speak.

  3. Continue on this path of Marvel Celestials and Ancient Aliens therein, alienate the playerbase more and more, power creep into narrative incoherence

I meant more of where would you (we) like to see the story go.

We can all agree that BlizzActivisions actions are Garbo towards employees and they’ve hacked the existing lore to fecal matter.

I’m just looking for suggestive hive mind.

Edit: I’d be down for an ARR reboot to WoW. But I feel like I’m doing so it’s have to essentially cut the previous expansions from the game after ARR occurred. This wouldn’t go down well with customers who already feel shorted by quests and content being removed from live.

Reboot to the end of MoP period and go from there.

Have the first expansion be all about factions functioning as separate entities. Then have a Legion expansion be the first in this re-structured timeline.

Cuz as it currently stands, my capacity for caring about any of the current story is about expired. They’ve spend spend no time building things up either opting to throw new characters and ideas in your face or feeding you with such microscopic specks of information that you’re essentially forced to sit through the entire thing just to get hit with more questions than those that are resolved.

They’ve wasted characters, ideas, plots, ect to the point where I simply no longer care where the story is headed in its current trajectory.

If we continue down the rabbit hole of nonsense… we got:

  1. Light Lords forcing everyone to serve
  2. Void Lords breaking through to reality
  3. Villain batting Elune into an Selemene like Goddess
  4. The actual Corruption of Azeroth

Personally, I’d like this all to be a void nightmare, which would allow us to go back to Azeroth and face off against Old Gods again…

I’m partial to a hard reset tbh post hiring new authors if I’m honest

There’s too much baggage, and fixing the problems of the original foundation by simply building over it is producing enormous sink holes of this dynamic:

3D Printer Ancient Aliens Marvel Celestials crap is just universe-breaking lol

Honestly, I’d rather these writers, if they are going to stick around, are given their own AU Azeroth and leave the “main timeline/universe” alone.

While I don’t believe in leaks quite often, this one was rather close…

Hopefully 10.0 will be a return to a different Azeroth where they can do their own stories and any fans of the old lore won’t be affected.

One of these two for sure. Theres no other way, well actually there is, but this will sure make the game sink to another level or even die for good.

I want us to return to Azeroth and I can see a few ways that can happen.

  • Building on comments made by the leaders about low sources, the expansion has the factions exploring and seeking other landmasses on Azeroth to find resources for the factions. We could easily visit the long await Dragon Isles or even find some hidden continent, like say one blocked from travel by ferocious seas and howling winds.
  • Alternatively Blizzard straight up reveals a new land mass either one of the other side of Azeroth or we get a Southrend type continent that announces itself by having the enemy suddenly attack us.
  • The Jailer attempts to alter reality had an effect on Azeroth but the Bronze Dragon were able to contain the issue. However the Infinite Dragonflight are trying to break reality, so we get recruited to help. I envision this expansion having the continents in essentially in their own bubbles and us having to either fight to ensure the events of the true timeline occurs or ensure that it can’t collide with Azeroth’s past and distort reality. For example we could aid the Pandaria Revolution against the Mogu, make the grim choice to ensure that Lordaeron falls, or experience the events of the First, Second, and Third wars fist hand.

Just de-escalate and pretend SL wasn’t a thing like they did with WoD.

I’m against the ARR FFXIV reboot route. It worked for FFXIV because it had nothing to lose by doing so. WoW does however if not done right. Im all for a large time skip tho.

Id rather we continue exploring the cosmology because Im all tapped out caring about Azeroth these days and there needs to be more to Warcraft than just Azeroth. One of the best things I like about SL is that Im away from Azeroth. In a way SL has become heaven for me lol.

I don’t mind the cosmic war but it needs to incorporate Azeroth more. We’re supposed to be fighting the scourge but we’ve hardly seen any of it.

Maybe we find out everything after the trial in Warcrimes was just a vision Anduin had of a possible future… and then he decides to let Garrosh eat the poisoned food.

Anduin spares us from WoD and everything after. He informs Voljin of Sylvanas’s possible dealings with an evil loa named Muehzala - which Voljin would be curious to learn. And Anduin tells us about Zovaal and Denathrius. Keeping Sylvanas under strict guard, and ensuring a council will take over if Voljin ever does fall.

This reminds me of the Kyrian quest where you see what happens in Redridge.

It never sat right with me that there hasn’t been any follow up. That’s not exactly far from the major Alliance capital.

That doesn’t even touch on the fate of the person that we ferry to oribos at the end of the quest. I had to scroll back through my chat history to see if I spaced out when someone went “WTF?! Why’d they go to the Maw?”

I think the question is not how much further they can push the limit, but i think they need to recenter and simplify.

During beta you actually had to enter reality and save them upon Kleia’s begging. That was cut shortly before launch actually.

This fairly new FF14 lore channel I found last week did a video on the “Twelve” came to be in their mythology today actually.

An actual mythology.

With mythological themes.

Mythically.

Still haven’t started playing FF14 btw but just

behold, lore and world building that takes into account all the playable races

Why is everyone so determined to go “it was all a dream”? That is the worse trope I can ever think of a writer doing. It effectively invalidates everything the players have done so far and makes all of our feeling.

Nah, Anduin can go scratch. Just have the Infinites pull the AU Draenor out of the timeline causing a rippling effect that realigns the timeline returning us to before time was ever broken by Kairoz and Garrosh’s interference. Garrosh escapes to parts unknown, Kairoz is killed, and the rest scatter into hiding until a later date.

I’d rather scrap that entirely and dedicate that time building up their relationship, strengthening bonds between the Forsaken and the Horde. Offering that olive branch, finally.

Such as it was meant to be.

Honestly the amount of chaos you could pull with a ‘broken timelines’ scenario is kind of mouthwatering. The entirety of Chronicle could be opened up and expanded on/corrupted.

Have you seen how easily the City Guards kill the Scourge!? They One-Shot them with ease!

Not far from the Capital means nothing! The Scourge are only threats to Villages!

Darkshore is already stated to have lost it’s inhabitants so why not the rest of Stormwind’s Villages outside of Goldshire(which is close enough to the Capital that they would have trained Soldiers guarding the place in event of Scourge attacks) and Menethil Harbor?

Menethil Harbor is in the Wetlands which is well protected from Scourge from Duskwood(due to the rift separating Southern Khaz Modan from Northern Khaz Modan) and Lordaeron(due to Thandol Span being guarded by the Anvilmar Dwarves who can easily pick the Scourge off just like Stormwind City Guards).

The Kingdom of Stormwind is now just the Capital, Goldshire and Menethil Harbor.

As for the Plot for the next Expansion. Considering the Veilwings which were first introduced as Sylverian Dreamers in the Ingame Shop as well as Vulpin also being introduced in the Shop one would think the Phoenixes and Sun Kitty hint at the next plot…

Considering the Sun is associated with Nature according to the Druid Class Preview Series(and deals Nature Damage in Druid Spells) one would think the Hints tie to Life.

But why would we go after Life? Perhaps Elune would feeling guilt attempt to bring back the Night Elves using the Caverns of Time AKA Zereth Tempus? Blizzard has implied in Ion’s Interview that there are multiple Zereths and the Caverns of Time do resemble the un-terraformed portions of Zereth Mortis after all.

Of course if Elune starts meddling with the thing then so will the rest of the Pantheon of Life… They will take Elune’s use of the Machine of Time and Space as an invitation to use it themselves!

That will bring Murozond into the picture. If the Caverns of Time are indeed Zereth Tempus then AUs are inside Spheres just like the Afterlives are so the AUs that fade are ones not permitted to leave the Machine into the Cosmic Realm of Order/Time.

Denizens of the Plane of Life going wild with Zereth Tempus would most definitely drive Nozdormu insane! Murozond outright stated that us foiling him is the path to madness so Alternate Azeroths, Arguses and Draenors popping up in our Skies in a comical manner would be what one should expect Murozond to consider to be the End Time.
