we dont even have competition now. pick an industry, its monopolized. there MIGHT be 2 or 3 ‘competitors’ but they will own the entire market share and ofc raise prices at the exact same time

Lol if you think for q second nationalizing utilities lowers prices.
It just gives the government more money to spend on pet projects. My old city had a section of roadway that got renovated. It went for 300k to 40 million because one of the councilors lived along that way and kept changing things.
Housing prices are ridiculous RN, sure, but again you only look at half the picture. Sure, following 2008 there was a lot of big outfits that didn’t make it and the ones who did charge a lot more for a house… but the thing about housing is most of the issue isn’t the house… it’s permitting laws… a lot of municiple governments have heavily restricted zoning for a reason, it pushes up prices, which prices people who can’t afford it out and brings in people who can, which pushes up the taxable income in the area snd thus the governments portion of taxable income… bonus points for higher property value meaning higher property tax in most places.
Then you either push out, or heavily consolidate all the lower income people… so that you again… end up with a higher dollar/sq ft metric… then you can spend less in a smaller area because there more consolidation.
No problem is absolutely a single factor.
It’s like the whole “companies are posting record profits!” When inflation is higher than its been in decades. There’s always many factors that play in any story.
