Where do people find guilds?

Well if guilds don’t work out pugging always is an option.

Have you considered just starting your own guild, and recruiting like minded players?

Yeah, but that’s a lot of work, and honestly I don’t think “like-minded” people exist.

^ And this right here is why I’m vocal about THE unwritten rule of gaming:

“We do NOT talk politics in game.”

Look, I don’t care if a person is right or left leaning, but gaming is one of the few avenues of escape left in the world. IMO, too many people at this point desperately try to make even minor things political. These people always come across as wanting to be validated, and the moment an opposing viewpoint comes into play, everything seems to go completely off the rails. I’ve seen guilds die because of this nonsense, I’ve seen people that were friends become enemies, and I’ve even seen people that supposedly loved one another reach a point where they can’t stand each other anymore (granted, that can be other issues entirely at points, but still…)

The most amazing part is how often I see someone say “Oh, X doesn’t matter, that’s no big deal!” and yet the moment that opposing viewpoint comes in, all of a sudden it’s a REALLY big deal.

Folks, it’s time for us to just leave this crap at the door. When I log into WoW, I don’t want to have to worry about being “R” for a few moments (yeah, not posting my name that easily lol). I don’t want to have to worry about a car payment, worry about the items I need to get from the market the next day, worry about the main bridge into the city being shut down for repairs and traffic being a nightmare for the next four months, etc.

When I log in, I’m Lilus. I’m Renai. I’m Trizza. I’m whatever character I’m playing at that particular moment. I’m more worried about having fun, killing a big dragon/lich/god/etc., and getting loot. Assuming the other players in the group aren’t being absolute jerks, my first thought isn’t “Gee, did they vote for Trump, or did they vote for Harris?” My first thought is “Are we all having a good time, and are we up for whatever the current task is?”

I really do wish more people in this game had this particular mindset and just knew when to leave all the IRL crap back in the real world. I honestly feel a fair amount of the heated situations that pop up in the game between players would disappear overnight if people could learn to be a bit more laid back and not let all the crap we’re already bombarded with on a daily basis creep into WoW to such an extent that it’s just another avenue for folks to be constantly at each other’s throats.

Sometimes target sometimes Walmart depends on my mood

Well, nothing worth doing is ever easy, now is it?

It CAN be done, but setting aside all of what I said in my last post, there are other issues at play: gamers in general seem to be too enamored with “instant gratification” nowadays. As far as a fair number are concerned, if a guild isn’t fielding a full raid team within 48 hours and getting loot, the guild is a failure. There’s also always going to be the handful of players that really aren’t team players: they just join the first guild that’ll have them solely for the few worthwhile guild perks that still exist, or just to see what items they can grab from the bank that aren’t nailed down before someone notices.

Lord knows I’m certainly not saying it’ll be an easy process. Best advice I can give: start with a few friends, then branch out from there. It’s going to take time, but it can STILL be done.

The irony… let it sink in. That’s all ANYONE wants.

Mahou, it’s Lilus. Just swapped to my warrior as this is the character that’ll be in the guild in question.

If you don’t want to have to worry about making a guild yourself, then let me know. This character is an officer in a new guild. Admittedly, it’s still very small (and truthfully, the roster might need a little cleaning). Our leader is a newer streamer that plays on both US and EU servers and is a fairly new player himself, but I very much like the community he’s created so far (in fact, we just had a transmog contest last month for both regions with some fairly amazing prize support)

There’s a strict “no politics” rule in place. While the guild itself is new, I’ve been part of this particular gaming community for well over a year. I’ve not seen any issues arise in the whole time I’ve been here, and overall it strikes me as a very friendly group of folks.

If you’re interested on Alliance characters, then let me know as I’d need to coordinate on an alt as the guild was initially created as a Horde guild here on the US servers (plus the servers are fairly borked right now thanks to the DDoS)

If you have Horde characters, just look up OnlyRejects on the guild finder. I can eventually approve those characters on this one once I’m able to log into the game. If you do join, don’t feel obligated to stick around, especially if you find something you prefer or you and a few friends decide to try your own thing :+1:

I’ve met some great guilds pugging. Raids especially often advertise as guild groups. Join those over random groups and see if you vibe. If you see a guild advertising in trade chat see if you can run with them on a trial basis. Also, recommend being honest about whatever rule change made you leave your last guild so you can find out up front where they stand on that kind of rule.

I’m just casual but trying to find a relatively large and social guild has been an awful expereince.

I rarely see guid ads in game, or if there are, they are usually looking for specific roles that don’t fit or is not of interest.

So I’ve tried the in-game guid finder. Oh my god. That is just awful.

Can only view a few listings at a time. No idea when the listing was created - I’ve recently seen guilds saying they are “Looking forward to raiding in SL”!

No idea of active membership (they have # in guild, but that is largely meaningless). You can apply for a few, but then if you get an invite - and they don’t provide any info - all your other requests are lost.

I’ve joined some and I was the only person online all day.

It’s just a mess.

If they want to make people act more social there really needs to be a better way to let this happen.

Yeah, that’s the key thing about the guild finder that always gets me. Supposedly, a listing expires after 30 days. If I log into a guild master/officer character within a guild, I’ll even see the notice that the current listing is “expired.”

Try to look up guilds on an unguilded character? Get ready to see PLENTY of listings from dead guilds about how they are “Looking forward to getting ready for BfA/SL/(insert expansion that isn’t TWW here).” Hell, a few months ago I actually saw one listing bragging about how they were a level 25 guild with all perks unlocked. You just KNOW that one has been floating around for almost 15 years now!

I get it: 20+ year old game with massive “spaghetti coding” issues. Not always easy to fix stuff, and as a result stuff CAN fall through the cracks if it isn’t a priority, but I also feel like people mentioning that the guild finder is in desperate need of an overhaul gets mentioned just enough that it has to be on SOMEONE’S radar at Blizzard.

Have you considered making one yourself?

Ignore the snarky comments and just know every successful Mythic+ or raid that you do have an enjoyable time in, just whisper the leader and ask them if their recruiting! Its worked for me and if not you could potentially meet someone cool to group with later.
