Like before Arthas and the Culling of Stratholme, did it originate with Mal’ganis and Kel’thuzad?
And also, if Mal’ganis was working for Sire Denathrius as we found out in Shadowlands, why would he be disrupting the flow of anima to the Shadowlands by raising dead people into undead instead of having them pass into the Shadowlands? What was his plan there? Just some big brain, super complicated plan to get someone to become the Lich King and then turn Sylvanas into a Banshee, break free of the Lich King’s will, and then turn evil again anyway and open up a portal into the Shadowlands for the Jailer’s grand plan?
How could any of them foreseen that’s how it was going to end up? What was the deal with that?
Something Something KT was guided to make a plague cause he was a bad mage who I think studied necromancy and that was bad. Anyways Arthas was supposed to I believe set Azeroth up to be easily claimed by the Jailer. Which going into deeper fan stuff the Jailer was supposedly the fall guy used by Denathrius and the Primus. But explained was Arthas failed so other ideas were thrown at the wall.
Old lore here! So, Back in the first and second War (mostly second) Gul’dan brought back Teron’gor from death, Teron was a warlock and once killed and placed into the corpse of a dead human he became a deathknight. I know not for certain if this is the first instance of undeath. But, carefully glaring upon this, we know Ner’zhul was tortured, twisted, eventually killed and found himself into Northrend by means I no longer remember.
Now, the plague, why did it come to the Eastern Kingdoms? I can only assume it was undoubtedly a tool of Archimonde. In Warcraft III, the rise of the undead saw Arthas and Kel’thuzad to summon Archimonde. And The combined forces of Orcs, Elves, and Men threw down the legion in Mount Hyjal who were supported by Undead.
The Plague and Undeath is a device perhaps found by the demons, though I don’t think this was deeply explored back then, I sort of checked out lorewise when Shadowlands came about.
Zovaal wanted to conquer Azeroth from the Burning Legion once his Nathrezim secured the World Soul and thus needed Undead for that.
Ner’zhul due to having freedom of course got the bright idea to give Arthas free will and share a body with him only for Arthas to backstab him and take over the Scourge for himself. Arthas’s Soul thanks to Domination was not in control over his Body thus granting it free will and what was left of it inside his body after Frostmourne cleaved it twice was thrown out with his Heart preventing Zovaal from using it to control his Body through Domination.
If Arthas was under control the Jailer would have had Ner’zhul send the World Soul to the Maw to fuel it enough for Zovaal to extend the Maw into Oribos then take out the Arbiter causing the Souls to go to the Maw and once the Jailer had acquired the Sigils he would have caused the massive influx of Souls(since he already used Azeroth’s World Soul to get to Oribos) to power the Sepulcher to Dominate all existence.
