Where did our classes come from?

Doesn’t this idea originate from Bewitched in the 1960s?

And monks depending on what nation your studying had a purpose beyond being skilled fighters.
Like japan they defended the people from roaming swordsmen and a few times held up one of the great generals in battle through some trickery like burying pots in mud.
But just about every asian country has some form of martial arts that is linked to a monk group who created/perfected it it was their defense afterall.

No merlin from the king arthur stories is a “warlock” we eventually changed him into a wizard/mage and Morgana is also a warlock but was changed into a witch.

The dictionary definition will be referring to the common fictional meaning.

People who actually practice wiccanism/witch craft say otherwise. And they certainly are not sorcerers. I’d believe real life practitioners before I believe a random dictionary definition.

Interesting… What do they say?

I was referring to my first post in this thread:

I don’t know what a warlock is, but I have spent enough time with witches to know that they don’t like being called one.

Also lets be clear that real people were executed for witchcraft in the 1600-1700s and there’s no instance I know of that the males who were executed were referred to as warlocks.

Wiccans are more shamanistic focusing on elemental powers for blessings or help.
Witchcraft (hollywood) is more like voodoo witch doctors call on spirits and attempt to control things on the other side to do your bidding.
And yes witchdoctors do exist and yes they do “curse” people and that stuff.

The reason those women were executed has one interesting theory about a fungi that grows on straw/thatch that caused hallucinations. Basically the women became exposed by “riding” their brooms and went on a drug trip.

Idk about that but I won’t completely rule it out.

Just google african witchdoctor and yea lot of whacky stories out there in news like people becoming “zombies” and junk.
Its pretty much as old as time for a faith and at one point a witchdoctor became a dictator of a country dont remember if they are still around though.

Quick google search says otherwise.

Most people killed for “witchcraft” because the pissed someone else off, were a someone’s mistress, had something someone wanted, or just ol’ fashion bigotry.

This is…

Oh geez.

Some backward people extracted tetrodotoxin from some puffer fish and poisoned someone with it, and more backward people said “zombies are real!” when they saw it, and somehow this becomes urban legend.

Puritans who carried out these were extremely off the whackado meter. And there are a few men that were charged of witchcraft but they were not charged as witches but pawns.

I’ve always seen Demon Hunters as a Vampire analogue. Think about it this way.

Old school classic vampires like Dracula/Cain/Nosferatu.

They are cursed by demons.
They drain life essence to sustain themselves.
They can move extremely quickly, faster than the eye can see.
They’re super strong.
They can control darkness/shadows. (Dracula can control shadows to make it darker if he needs it to be.)
They can control fire.
They can completely or partially turn into animals. (Generally wolves or bats.)
They’re immortal, neigh invulnerable, and have very specific circumstances to kill them.

Now Demon Hunters.

They’re empowered by Demons.
They steal life essence to sustain themselves. (souls)
They can move extremely quickly, faster than the eye can see. (Blur, Blade Dance Ect…)
They’re super strong. (They can take out Demons well above their weight/size/strength.)
They can control darkness. (They literally have a spell called Darkness that allows them to not take damage. Ie. The target misses?)
They can control fire.
They can partially turn into animals. (Giant bat wings, Horns, and Hooves.)
They’re immortal, neigh invulnerable, and have very specific circumstances to kill them. (Ala Twisting Nether death, otherwise they can just come right back.)

I’ve always seen Demon Hunters as an homage to the old school Dracula style vampires.

Maybe I’m just over thinking it. But the idea for these classes has to come from somewhere, and there are a lot of things that line up. It’s too much to just be a coincidence.

I haven’t seen any actual historical documents which refer to men accused of practicing witchcraft as warlocks. But you if you found some feel free to share, I am always willing to learn.

And yes, I think we all know accusations of witchcraft were wildly unfounded. Hence the modern term of attempting to expose someone you dislike as “going on a witch hunt”

I dunno where they came from by I know where alot of them went…

The dumpster.

Lets be real about the witch hunt aside from a bunch of teen girls on a drug trip it quickly became a way to legally kill off a spouse/partner and was abused lol.
One example I can recall a wife found out her husband had a mistress accused the other woman of witchcraft and claimed her husband was a puppet. The woman was killed to save the husband who in revenge accused his wife of being the actual witch.

Lol that’s pretty sus. Nothing wrong with being a witch though.
