You guys make me laugh with your assaults on a 18 hour timer. Why a timer? Just leave it on. Why can’t the objectives be large segments of strategic territory? Why is the objective always to bring another player’s health bar to zero?
Is there ANY creative thinking going on at Blizzard? Leave the rewards on a timer, it doesn’t matter. If the content is fun people will do it without the reward anyway. Look at the RP community, they create their own content.
I’ve posted about this before. This was billed as a return to the ‘faction war’ and PVP would be brought back because of warmode… but then you have no capture PVP objectives in any zone.
Look at Burning Crusade where you had 4 different zones that had PVP objective points in it.
I’ve made a comment or two before on this subject - adding objectives to world PvP similar to TBC’s (which I found incredibly fun) - but not many other posters seemed interested.
It’d be interesting to explore incursions as one singular world quest that covers a large swath of territory, encompassing a sizable portion of an entire zone where war basically breaks out, and there are a myriad of objective oriented things to do.
Sabotage this, destroy that, kill anything (counting for considerably less progress); collect these…
Give this quest a progress bar, where each NPC, Objective, or Enemy player counts as a small handful of percentage points of progress towards completion.
Could script some aerial dogfights between destructible flying machine NPCs, use warfront tech to create enemies that path towards specific locations. Destructible mole machines as objectives with varied spawn locations?
Once you weaken the enemy forces you can complete an event like incursions now that strikes a hard blow against them.
I always enjoyed the Plaguelands and BC pvp objectives. Put objectives into each zone that we can periodically fight over than give zone-wide buffs to the prevailing faction. These were always really fun and the incentives were great.
My memory is that these objectives had only occasional PVP. If you were at the gear stage where heroics were hard, you’d take the Auchindoun towers for the buff, but most people would ignore it otherwise.
Granted with the mythic+ system, people pushing keys would probably always be interested in such an objectives. PVE people might complain about “having” to do PVP, though.
Probably no different than PVEers currently doing WM for the 30% azerite/rep gain. My guild in BC would hit every one of these zone objectives almost every time they were active. Specifically for the PVP. Halaa was always a happening spot.
You’re correct that Plaguelands didn’t have “honor rewards”, but it certainly had pvp objectives and incentives for the faction in control. The objectives were the towers and each of them had a unique bonus/buff for the faction which controlled said tower and if you controlled all of the towers, there was a bonus zone wide buff on top of that.
Dang. I have no memory of that. Was this vanilla? I just remember it being hot for pvp because there were blue tier item dungeons there and lots of places to farm herbs, etc.
Yeah, the buffs were stuff like bonus dmg to undead, overall bonus dmg (this one was for controlling all towers iirc), a bonus flight path at one of the towers closest to strat, a bonus graveyard near the action, don’t remember the other buffs but there was one for each tower and one for having control of all of them simultaneously. Those are the kind of wpvp objectives I’d like to see make a comeback.
