one way to not lose players is dont do annoying things.
this is easy low hanging fruit. you know kids these days like choices and doing things their way, and in some respects im no different.
i got my reasons but i dont WANT a dagger, i use swords on casters. is it any real difference to anyone? does it matter if a given vendor has to have one more item in its list?
this entire game is just ones and zeros on many, many servers. you can add/change anything you want. come on guys, at least do the easy things (in this case, like making sure there are options for every slot) =D
There are less swords because not every caster can use swords. Every caster can use daggers so there’s more daggers.
The solution is for Blizzard to just remove weapon restrictions. There’s really no reason a mage can use a sword but a priest or shaman can’t.

If any, I think some of it might be, in the case of priest, they prefer the bludgeoning weapons, or easy to use scarificial ones (the daggers), in the case of shaman, might be most shaman come frm more primitive cultures.
Orc too dumb to use sharp pointy stick. Only knows how to smash.

It never made sense to me why a caster would even have a sword. When your primary power comes from casting magic, you only need a little sidearm, not a big clunky sword.
wellllll… in reference to one thing above, some of this may be influenced by oldschool dungeons and dragons. in D&D, priests werent allowed to use edged weapons. so yeah, no sword/dagger/etc, hence why youd see a priest always having a mace or something.
but weapons for casters and druids are basically cosmetic, so, yeah…
Seeing as how the only thing that really matters for casters is the stats anyway, the better solution would be to just drop the weird restrictions about transmogs with daggers/fist weapons and other 1 handed weapons.

Because Gandalf and Glamdring.

OP, you’re just the other side of people whining that they keep getting offhands in their vault. After so many years of this, I’m surprised they still have INT 1H at all. Especially when INT swords piss off Priests and Shamans, and daggers piss off Paladins and Monks.
I got a heroic sword on my mage from TW which was super annoying.
Yeah, but priests can use daggers in WoW, and I could be wrong but druids were not allowed to use metal weapons in at least 1 version of DnD.
As well as Harry Potter and the Sword of Gryffendor, and I am sure there are other magic using sword wilders as well.
And they have added Int axes, which, again, piss off Priests, druids, mages and warlocks (the swords also piss off druids), though most of these are likely going to be crafted.
Gets frustrated at Fire Mage’s artifact weapon from legion because it’s not a staff
Red Mage from any of the Final Fantasy games(Especially FF14) capitalizes on the sword wielding aspect even though they probably qualify as a Battlemage and not your typical mage.
Can I have some Int 2h melee weapons too? I don’t want a Mace & Shield… I’m tired of having to mog the Artifact weapon of Holy over them constantly, I want to use Ashbringer as my Mog and I want the damage that comes from an actual 2H weapon as a Holy Paladin. A sizable portion of my healing is directly proportional to my damage output.

Honestly with the size of some of these daggers, they’re basically swords
The line between dagger and sword is very arbitrary.
Personally, I always thought (and still do) that it’s weird for a mage to carry a sword. Just odd, y’know. Imagine a Warrior using a wand. That level of weird.

TBH they should just get rid of weapon drops and replace them with tokens like we had in Nathria. Would solve the problem of stuff like Warglaives and Guns/Bows clogging the loot tables without losing the option for cosmetics.
Counterpoint, two of the most individually famous wizards in pop culture are both sword users. If it’s good enough for Gandalf, its good enough for WoW.
The bigger miss in WoW is that we don’t have an option for using our weapons to cast spells.
There is literally an int sword that you can get crafted. Doesn’t even require the crafter to farm for an expensive recipe like the int 1h axe does.
Also an Int Sword off the third boss.
Yeah, but Gandalf actually used his sword and had a reason to, there’s no incentive for a Mage to do the same in WoW lol… outside of transmog purposes at least.
Blizzard is like really behind when it comes to this type of stuff, even in Elden Ring there were melee weapons that could cast spells while engaging in melee. No idea how you can make swordplay relevant for Mage unless they want to add a Battlemage 4th spec or something.
