Where are the recipes?

I haven’t leveled up a character in a long time. Now I unlocked some allied races and am levying them up. But professions seems to have changed. It use to be when you obtained the required level of a recipe in a profession the recipe would show up for sale at an instructor.

I leveled up blacksmithing and when I when to get some new recipes from an instructors, the cupboard was bare … what changes have been made and how do you get new recipes these days?

They should still be at the trainer, but you have to make sure you’re at the trainer for the current expansion you’re in.

The blacksmithing guy in Stormwind will only teach you Vanilla and Cata recipes, for example.

pre-legion they are still from a trainer but some of the old trainers are gone and some moved around. What level/xpac trainer are you looking for?

I’m just leveling starting at 20 so no expansion just starting from the beginning. I was checking the Blacksmithing trainers in Orgrimmar. I’m at level 20 blacksmith and there are recipes that should be showing up, but nothing.

Saru Steelfur in the burning Anvil valley of honor. Click the box for unlearned recipes to see if maybe you just don’t have the skill level for them yet.

I’m in vanilla, I’m level 20 blacksmith. No recipes at the trainers in Ogrimmar.

Just to check, are these recipes that used to be there or are you looking at WoWhead to see what’s available at your smithing level?

There are a number of recipes that you have to find out in the world, especially for Vanilla content.

Well that’s what I’m trying to find out because it wasn’t that way before but like I say it’s been a long time. I’m talking about things like a copper maul. Also no recipe for spiced bread in the cooking trainer. that used to be the first way to start leveling up.

Vanilla or classic?

Classic the trainer usually tells you where the next steps are.

In retail, there’s an unlearned tab, if you click it and start looking at the recipes you don’t have it will tell you where you can get them

won’t let me post a link to a pic but.

I’m 20 Blacksmith, I’m looking at a copper mace which requires 15, the professional trainer has nothing

Easy way to find out now. Go to the unlearned tab. Each recipe will tell you where to get it.

Yep I there now, I’m level 20. Copper maul requires 15, the trainer in Orgrimmar has nothing for me. No way to level up. The tab says the recipe is available at “profession trainer”

I’d check another trainer if there is one nearby.

I recently started a new alt with blacksmithing, so I can confirm that mace is still in the game. I have the recipe for it that I got from the profession trainer in Stormwind.

Otherwise sounds like a bug.

I’m having the same problem with mining

You see at the top of your profession where it says “Unlearned” click that then click the item you want to learn, it usually tells you the source either below or if its star ranked the first star gives you details.

Yeah ok so I know that. I’m with a trainer right now in Orgrimmar. been to a number of them. I am a level 20 blacksmith. The unlearned tab says a Copper Maul requires level 15, and that it’s available from profession trainer. The only thing any profession trainer offers me is Cataclysm Blacksmithing when I get to level 78.

You’re level 20 or your blacksmithing is level 20. 2 completely different things.

And just to verify you’ve filtered the list the trainer offers?

I ask since it doesnt seem obvious in your responses that you have filtered.

Also…

You’re in retail or classic.

That answer isn’t obvious either

Oh geez, yes I needed to set the filter on the trainer dialog box I was looking at my blacksmithing box.

Just use this guide.

It’s what I just used to level vanilla bs in retail.
