I have occasionally found war cache during assaults but never air drops out of an assault. Out-of-assault times are I actually when I hear the occasional airplane sound. I hear the sound, I look up and see an airship flying overhead and I chase it but… nada.
I know they contain low ilevel scrap bait, but I would still like to find the damn things. Is there some secret to finding them?
EDIT: FINALLY! saw an air drop.
I was on an alt, in Tyragarde, heard the airplane, looked up and didn’t see the airship/zepplin but saw a parachute with a crate attached to it floating down. Mounted up and followed. Didn’t see it actually land but found the create, clicked once to open the crate, clicked again to open the chest, and did a little happy dance. It had 50 conquest, a gray item (14g? boo!) and a 20 war resources (meh).
At least that’s one less BG I have to do to get cap.
they generally have limited locations at where they drop in at. But you can still see the plane even after it dropped the cargo. So if you spot the plane, and follow it, but dont see anything, you are on the end of the path, gotta back track to it.
Friend of mine usually sits in 1 zone while afk with sounds open so he can hear the plane flying over and since we have seen this 1 plane probly 20 times, we know about where its going to drop once it finally releases the cargo. Im sure wowhead has all the locations of where it can drop, as for timeframes i cant give you any idea of what they actually are. But be reminded that you can only get 1 per day for conquest, the rest is just random low ilvl gear.
Thanks. That’s useful to know. Hopefully someone will put together some gathermate data or handy notes and make it easier to find but if they were innately easier to find, it would give both sides another reason to fight.
I spent almost an hour today fighting horde scum over a turtle wq in stormsong. Horde camped. Then Alliance camped it. And then Horde came back in force… There was more fighting… It was great.
Even if the damn air drop had gray items, I bet horde and alliance would still fight each other over it.
well its not about finding them, its about being near then when they are dropped since they only last at max 5 mins after opening, excluding the ones that drop during an incursion. They last longer, but normal dropped ones only last around 5ish mins after being opened.
Shorter than that. But your point is right on. You have to be on top of them or right after them when they drop ’ cause they despawn in a minute after opening. Best way I found is hanging out someplace high where multiple routes pass by. Listen while reading reddit or browsing deviant art etc. And when you hear the plane watch for the drop and glider out to it.
