Where are our dark nights?

It’s 9PM in game and it looks like it’s noon.

This isn’t authentic at all >:(

I want a refund.

They never existed outside of a couple of zones.

It was more prevalent than you think though. Duskwood should be a nightmare of darkness. If it’s not then it’s not true Classic.

And it’s not fyi. They are using the modern engine for lighting. The Death Effect graphics toggle? That vanished fully in Cata. Essentially you used to be able to toggle the ugly bright white ghost world away for a muted color scheme and a soft blue ghost outline of your body during the corpse run. Eventually the toggle vanished and you have to /ffx death effect0 to remove it, then that command got removed and it was ffx glow effect or something, but setting that to 0 instead of 1 also removed other glows from objects in the game and really messed it up. Then it was removed entirely.

Death Effect control is still gone. This is the modern lighting engine, not a recreation of the classic, as such the actual darker nights are non-existent, and in fact, using the Inky Black potion on retail does a far better effect at recreating classic than actual Classic now.

Blizzard is cutting corners everywhere. Lack of server stability and cheap hardware, lighting engine, 1.12 rush av (done in 4 minutes back in classic the day the patch hit).

This is “Activision-Blizzard” version of Classic, not Nostalrius recreation of a truly great game.

Actually from what I can tell, that Duskwood where torches were needed is a complete fabrication. Here’s a couple screenshots that date back to October of 2003, on Blizzard’s website:

This video probably helped spread this myth. This guy even shows an edited version of the screenshot I linked at this timestamp:

They never really needed torches, that was a beta concept, however it WAS dark. Darker than what we have now.

No, no it wasn’t.
