I want to believe that, but after the past year of story development, I’m expecting a sort of monkey’s paw situation wherein Thrall has succumbed to dark shamanism and becomes a second tier raid boss next expansion or something.
Sylvanas has never not been evil. It’s silly to think that because Sylvanas was and is evil, that Thrall will also be. Vol’jin didn’t become evil.
Khadgar is busy fingerwagging members of the Alliance for not letting themselves get turned into a road and Thrall’s VA has health issues but i still dont see why Metzen couldn’t give the greenlight for someone else to voice thrall so sylvanas could be out of our hair sooner…
Not really, it was just misfired marketing. In blind taste tests, people overwhelmingly preferred the New Coke.
Finally utilizing their much deserved paid vacation Karen, just let them chill
My fear isn’t based in Blizzard feeling the need to make heroes into villains, I’m not arguing that Sylvanas has ever not been evil. My fear is that two expansions from now Thrall is going to be the next Horde character sacrificed for the plot. That they’ll, at worst, shoehorn Thrall into a villain that was lolcorrupted by the void or Blizzard will just kill him off like they did Vol’jin.
It won’t happen. Blizzard acknowledged the Horde playerbase’s desire to return to Thrall’s Horde values. They acknowledged they were wrong, and are offering Sylvanas up as an apology.
Khadgar? No idea, not the foggiest idea. I think Blizz really just felt he was far too prominent a character before and decided to arbitrarily backseat the crap out of him (they could have at least had him chilling with Magni in Silithus). Pretty weak writing tbh.
As for Thrall … Imma guessing he’ll have a role to play going forward, but as to where he is (with his Elemental Mojo on the fritz), he’s probably in Outlands Nagrand. The Throne of the Elements and Greatmother Geyah both have an enormous amount of sentimental value to Thrall. Its very possible he’s there and is just completely out of touch with what is going on on Azeroth atm.
Wasn’t that essentially what happened with Garrosh, though? SoO was the Horde rebelling against Garrosh and the kind of Horde he tried to make it, in favor of returning to the Thrall Horde values.
Where did they acknowledge they were wrong? Can you cite that?
Yes.
And you’ll notice the cutscene for BFA that Metzen worked on is tonally much different than the BFA Blizzard delivered without him.
They’ve spoken about acknowledging the Saurfang movement and how they didn’t expect it – and encouraged us to continue showing them how we feel about the story to help direct it at Blizzcon.
Some say the two will combine forces and create a 3rd faction to dismantle the Alliance AND the Horde.
lol, well it’s fun to think about at least.
That would require Khadgar to beak his vow against going into conflict with the heroes of the Legionfall war.
Khadgar was getting very close to overused in my opinion.
He was the de facto go to guy for WoD and Legion, he was essentially the primary narrator in telling us where the plot would progress. They even gave him a talking bubble head so he can be a blip on your UI in an actual canon way… lol
I like Khadgar, I think it’s a shame they haven’t fully explained his history in game yet. How in his fight with a Sargeras possessed Medivh, his body was aged dramatically. But he’ll be appreciated more if he’s used sparingly.
Plus, Khadgar is a “for everyone” guy, WoD and Legion both had opportunities for both sides to fight a common enemy, he’s good at facilitating that. But in BfA… he’d have to choose sides.
As has been said, Khadgar is looking for solutions in books.
Thrall has not been addressed. As we know outside the game, Metzen has not been available. In game the logical assumption is that he is somewhere actively trying to heal wounds. He is a shaman after all. It would make sense to think of him as at another area of the world trying to heal wounds there.
It does not have to be a full Alliance like structure, where each race is its own entity and they just agree to work together. While that would be better than the warchief structure they currently have, seeing a structure different than the Alliance would be a good option.
Assuming that Blizzard does not break up the factions or something dramatic like that:
Going forward, the Warchief position could simply be limited. The problem with the Warchief position as it stands now is that the Warchief has effectively unlimited power. It is a dictatorship, plain and simple. When you have a mostly honorable character, like Thrall the Horde is fine. When someone like Garrosh or Sylvanas takes the reins with no checks, you end up with a mess. So, the obvious answer is a check on the Warchief powers. You could have a Warchief and a council. The council could be empowered to limit what all the Warchief can do. And they could have a system for peacefully removing a warchief that is overreaching or doing something that is not acceptable.
That is just one example. But, there are systems that are both different than the Alliance and still does the job of limiting the damage a single warchief can do.
I forgot to point out, that Thrall has a family now. His wife Aggra, son Durak, and another unnamed child. Between his role as a Shaman, and his family life, taking on any other roles would be a disservice to both.
Thrall was actually supposed to be an important player this expansion, but Metzan had to get surgery so they just wrote him out.
Khadgar: Even though Sylvanas committed genocide against the night elves this is still both sides fault. Nevermind the fact that if Sylvanas successfully genocides the entire alliance they will never ever be able to stand up to the horde again and thus, assuming some of them survive be left as second class citizens for the rest of time if they don’t reply in kind. If you strike back against them you are just as bad. I am so very disappoint in all of you.
Thrall: I’m still sad.
They did so in considerable depth in “The Last Guardian”.
I’m familiar with the book Last Guardian, one of my favorites. But I can’t find anything in game about “The Last Guardian”, was it a quest line?
Khadgar said he was returning to Karazhan to research ways of saving Azeroth from Sargeras’s sword and also expressing he wants no part in the war.
Even as a Hordie, I think he should get involved on the Alliance’s behalf. With him adding some arcane power we could get that much closer to dethroning Sylvanas, plus he would be a voice on behalf of peace between Horde and Alliance once she’s out of power.
That is something I think a few current alliance leaders might not be so willing to accept.
Thrall…unknown. It’s still my belief that he’s on Elements silent treatment until he can admit that Garrosh was at least partially his fault instead of this “No, you chose your own destiny” excuse.
