When you roll new toons do you heavily consider racial abilities?

Are racials that important to you when rolling toons?

When I rolled my paladins I absolutely wanted Gift of the Naaru for one fo them, that extra help if a healer is struggling when I’m tanking seemed really viable, and it’s definitely been helpful.

For me it’s almost always aesthetics. I’ve loved Draenei for a long time, but I think humans look cool too.

However with that said I do frequently use Gift of the Naaru and given it’s 2 mins now has come in HEAPs handy.

There was a brief point in WoW where I was being a tryhard and doing high level stuff, but TBH the racials make so little difference it’s pointless to do anything other than play what you like. Maybe if you’re pushing a +20 key in current season and need some ever so slight edge, sure. But for the typical WoW player, and even the typical mythic raider/key pusher it really doesn’t matter.

Drenai main stat buff is actually massively underrated and 1 of the top racials in the game.

If I’m planning to play pvp in said toon yes, of course

If not I’m pretty sure my skill level will fix that 1% performance diff and just go for w/e I feel at the moment

Not at all. I pick race based on aesthetics and lore more than racials. If the racial ends up being useful then great, but it doesn’t impact my choice at all.

Nope. Just aesthetics and race/class fantasy for me.

In retail, racials don’t really matter to me much, it’s more about the class and talents. Racials don’t play huge part while leveling or in dungeons, except for maybe the Orc racial for PvP and for Hunters (Orcs).

In Classic though, racials play a bigger role, so it’s more of a deciding factor there.

The only thing I consider is how good i can make the tmog look. Thats why I have 0 elves. Their stupid ears or their stupid eyebrows get in the way of everything.

Been playing since TBC and have a ton of alts, and I don’t think I’ve ever once considered racials when making them. I also don’t do high level stuff or need to be best at anything, my game is mostly pve, so racials aren’t that important. /shrug

It’s either aesthetics, or some utility for me.

Nightborne mailbox is very useful.

Somewhat.

I definitely made my Kul’Tiran Hunter with the intent of punching people off ledges, out of camouflage stealth.

My Lightforged Draenei rogue, on the other hand- I did that as a joke, but he grew on me, lol.

Most of my characters, are indeed aesthetic choices for class/race combos.

Yes, despite the fact im “nowhere near the content where racials matter.”

No idea why these spreadsheet junkies think thats a rational thing to say. Is Shadowmeld only useful in +12s?

Is it situationally useful: yes, as are other options (berserking, Blood Fury, Stoneform, Fireblood, etc,).

Is picking the correct one make or break at that level: no, not at all.

Nah, I just like playing human in games.

Yes, I’m boring.

No i don’t. I play Blood and Void elves because the clothes look the best on those races.

Oh absolutely. But then blizzard decided my racial was overpowered

I don’t even use it now

Never have, probably never will. In fact chances are I’ll glance at them and be like, “Oh, I’m not even going to use this all too often.”

Rocket Jump is good but not nearly as good as it could be since I have Disengage, Rocket Barrage is entirely useless and eats a GCD, and I rarely use the bank so I don’t utilize the on demand bank you get. Really the only big thing I’m getting is…1% Haste, which is on the lower end of MM priorities.

So, yeah, racials I don’t really care about. If I have a character, I plan up a story, a backstory and an aesthetic. If it sticks, I stick with the character. If not, it goes into the Alt Mines.

But so what? Thats not the question here, and no one really cares about make or break when you achievement hunt.

I like shadowmled because i can go hit the bathroom in the open world without dying.

I like two Hearthstones because im impatient and lazy.

I like Velfs because spell pushback is annoying.

And i play this dwarf because Draenei casting animations look stupid imo. But Might of the Mountain still helps in a 1400 pvp bracket.

The idea of “is the racial necessary” is from some hyperoptimized world view that frankly cannot see how the majority of players view things.

The only racial ability I consider is the ability to look good wearing armor.
