When will WoW run on Mint OS?

I’m not updating to Windows 11! So, it’s either Mint or Windows 7. I mostly play Classic anyway.

Windows 7? Why not even go to 10?

Can you not run it through Lutris?

I use Fedora and that’s what I do

I run it on mint with lutris.

Works well most of the time.

Grok says I can, Lutris is another great choice, especially if you want a more streamlined process. It’s an open-source gaming platform that simplifies running Windows games on Linux. Install Lutris from the Software Manager or with sudo apt install lutris, then search for the World of Warcraft script on the Lutris website. It automates much of the Wine configuration for you, often including tweaks for better performance. The community maintains these scripts, so they’re usually reliable.

Your graphics drivers matter a lot here. Linux Mint supports NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs out of the box, but you should check the Driver Manager to ensure you’re using the latest proprietary drivers (especially for NVIDIA or AMD cards). A setup with, say, an NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD RX 580, 16GB RAM, and an SSD should run WoW at decent settings—think 60 FPS on medium-to-high in most zones.

Uh, that’s what I said?

I run EndeavorOS, an Arch linux binary distro, and all I did was install wine-staging, then ran winecfg in a terminal, then doubleclick the battlenet installer after downloading it. Then played WoW after battlenet installed it.

No lutris or anything, just wine-staging is all I needed.

no complicated setup or wine bottles non-sense.

just installed wine-staging and ran winecfg so it could setup the windows environment and then proceeded just like I was on Windows. I didn’t change anything in winecfg either, just ran it and that was it.

not all distros are equal.

I’m sure some have 37 page documents and 4 part 1hour videos on ytube to do it.

EndeavourOS has been good to me so far. I like it.

Keep in mind I’m an old Gentoo user, so distros like mint and Ubuntu never really clicked for me.

I did use Debian way back around 2009. I still have the 14 DVD install set I burnt for Sarge

Are sure you don’t want to go back to Windows?

I dual boot because some of the 3D art and asset creation tools I use are windows only and don’t run or run very poorly on linux.

I let my Windows 10 update to 11 about 2 months ago.

As far as windows goes, it’s not horrrid, but it’s not Windows XP.

With XP I could strip it down to 12 running process. W11 has over 300 and filtering thru them is a giant chore I have yet to under take.

Never

I dropped it completely before 10 launched and haven’t regretted it for a moment.

unfortunately i play games you can’t play on linux

The only ones I’ve encountered like that are the ones that run root level anticheat.

I have strong feels about that sort of thing that would keep me from playing those games even if I were on windows.

I only use Windows 10 to play WoW. Before that it was Windows 7 to play older versions of WoW.

Saw on LTT that there was a group releasing pared down ISOs for Windows 10 that removed all of Microsoft’s nonsense processes like Cortana and Compatibility Telemetry. Bit of a gray area legally. Sure you’ll be able to find it on Google. Think the same group released scripts to remove the bloat after Redmond got fighty. Have a look on Google when you get a chance.

I take it the Warden module doesn’t run at root level, ‘eh?

I’m not upgrading to 11 ether. I will stick to what I got. if 10 is insufficient to play WoW after October then so be it. I’m happy with what I got I don’t need to go rush for 11 cause its new and sparkly. I don’t need 12,13,14 or 15.

The throw away mentality needs to stop somewhere. I draw the line there.
