When will the fan base realize blatant cash grabs?

I’ll be 100% honest when admitting that initially I wasn’t that upset about the first mount being introduced to the cash shop and bought it the first day to tease people who WERE upset about it and thought it was not right to have a cash shop AND charge a monthly sub. How much I regret such a decision and any mount bought thereafter.

When will the average player base realize that the core members of Blizzard are leaving and the game’s seemingly turning into an Activision cash cow, similar to Call of Duty?

For me toys being added to the cash shop for $15 each is the red flag for me. Proving they’ll not only put mounts, not only pets, not only transmog, but toys as well? Really?

Locking players into 6 months game time with a mount during an expansion with seemingly lack luster “fix” updates?

A discount on race changes (which as most players know, there has rarely EVER been a sale on things like this) every time a new allied race comes out?

A 15th anniversary package? No longer satisfied with making extra bucks off expansion “deluxe / collectors” editions but now just a package that offers no expansion or anything but charging the same price as if it were some kind of expansion for a statue and a mount that’s not even a re-color, no, It’s even lazier…It’s NO color.

They’ve stated no more class sets because It’s a waste of time and money, yet they replace the sets with what? Vanilla looking green gear for every raid tier? What did we get out of this trade off other than nothing? I honestly just don’t see how people can just accept changes like this and say “It’s okay, I still love paying not only the same price as before, but a quarter of the mounts, toys, etc I used to get in-game are now required to be purchased in the in-game shop”

I mean by all means, if the game had higher quality due to their record breaking profits I’d 100% understand MORE cash shop stuff and actually probably support it, but we’re not getting quality content. We’re getting terrible content and not only that, they refuse to improve it at all.

Next thing after raid sets they’re going to say gladiator mounts aren’t going to be a thing anymore because they take too much time or ANY cool looking armor at all.

There’s plenty more examples not stated here, but do you think worrying for not only WoW’s future but Blizzard’s as a whole is justified or “nah” ?

Don’t see the value, don’t buy it. Don’t worry about what other players spend their money on. You will lead a better life that way.

OP, why are you still here if you hate WoW as much as you put out on the forum?

I’d agree if everyone else’s decisions didn’t affect my favorite / used to be favorite game developer.

People buying into these cash grabs makes them think they can get away with more and more which have proven to have happened multiple times now.

I mean It’s stupid to not think that companies don’t think “Hey if they’ll buy it, we’ll sell it” even if it’s stuff that’s not great. I mean literally look at Call of Duty, they “re-make” the game every year on the spot for $60 and have only been trying to squeeze more and more profit out of it every time with DLC’s, skins, etc. it’s honestly disgusting.

You honestly think I hate WoW? A player who’s played since its been out, you really think I hate WoW? Consistently making suggestion threads to make it better, you think I hate WoW?

I’m as bitter as anyone else who has quit because most of us have put in quite a bit of time into the game and It’s turned into something we no longer enjoy. Sure there’s selfish little things here and there, but nothing to quit over…until recently. I’m not the only one who feels this way and I want it to be fixed. The only way to do that is apparently with your wallet. :man_shrugging:

I think you should find something more positive to do with your time rather than making constant negative threads on a forum of a video game that you claim you don’t hate but never have anything positive to say. To each their own though.

This is very true. 100% true. No changes will ever be made until people leave. The best example would be the flying debacle in WoD.

For someone who’s an apparent stalker, you’ve done a bad job. I’ve made a plethora of threads suggesting improvements on the game which seemingly have a lot of agreement with them, but if you wanna be a negative nancy…you do you, buddy. :man_shrugging:

I disagree. Blizzard seemingly used to listen before Acitivsion took over more control.

You don’t stalk enough posts, imo. :man_shrugging:

You know they merged back in WotLK, right? The Activision excuse is old and worn out. Give credit where credit is due. Activison didn’t make BfA, Blizzard did.

The day that people stop gobbling up the trash on Steam you know we are on the right track. But as of now, people are sheep and stay within the flock.

Clearly you haven’t been paying attention to what’s been going on with Activision / Blizzard.

Credit? More like dis-credit, due to more and more Activision decision making being put in play.

lol

You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, absolutely no idea. neither do I though, so we can both sit here and keep making stuff up if you’d like.

I understand your frustrations but everything you listed there is optional.

You know when you put it that way it’s actually pretty amusing.

But yeah regarding the limited anniversary package, people would pay 100 bucks just for the statue alone. It’s a collectible.

Mmm I feel like you’re trying to tie something completely different into this thread but I’d be happy to discuss the whole “Steam shouldn’t be the only game publisher out there” topic if you’d like. I think epic store having bought store exclusives is bad and shouldn’t be praised or purchased from.

No it’s the way companies are doing business these days with their “throw away” games, very little content / effort and maximized grinds coupled with cash shop and or pay for convenience services.
Steam is a perfect example of this with the quality of games over the last decade just dropping off the face of the earth yet asking for $$$$$ in large amounts for unfinished and or broken products.
Now being Australian i am protected by law as a consumer and don’t get stung by shoddy game developers, but i feel for those that are not and are easily persuaded by sales tactics and predatory companies.

I’d agree if all these things didn’t use to be in-game without having to spend more $$

I mean like I said I was okay with it, like I said I bought the first handful of mounts from the store without problems. I’ve bought quite a few in-game mounts. But It’s becoming increasingly worse and worse. I refuse to pay $15 for multiple toys that I used to be able to get from doing something fun in-game while I’m also paying for expansions and a subscription.

I agree. Honestly if it was JUST the statue and not as a “vanilla collectors edition” I probably wouldn’t think about it much about it, but it just feels like they’re trying too hard…

To be honest I think it’s a pretty good deal. I remember the past couple of statues were way more expensive.

And the statues are very high quality.

Edit: I mean, if you think about it, the package includes mounts and game time and some other stuff like a mousepad if I’m not wrong.

I’m honestly gutted it’s not available outside of US.

Mmm perhaps. Maybe my decision has been changed due to where I’m at in life right now, but as it stands I see it as cash grabbing. Perhaps in the near future I’d have the opinion like that "I think It’s great, who cares about people who can’t afford it. :man_shrugging: "

I mean, at the end of the day, Blizzard, regardless of our nostalgia and childhood, is first and foremost a business. And unfortunately, there are certain things that certain people might not be able to afford, and that’s fine.

I’ve grew up with the game and Blizzard as well, but I recognise that this game, and the genre in general needs to adapt, and business models need to change.

It’s a whole different landscape compared to roughly 13-14 years ago.

I’ll quit if the game ever becomes P2W though.

People can tell what a blatant cash grab is.

Thing is, those blatant cash grabs contain something in them that those people want to buy.
