hello! I’m new to the game and currently I’m playing in the starters edition (I’m planing to upgrade to the $15/mo version of the game as soon as i get to lvl20)
Currently I’m lvl 12 and all i have done are fetch quests on the starting island… there’s almost no one else here and I’m getting kindof bored of the game.
When will i be able to play a dungeon?
When will I be able to play with my friends?
Is there anything besides fetch quests that I can do at a low level?
What is the difference between buying BfA and only paying the monthly fee?
Also: I’m trying to create a resto-druid build. As I level up, all I get are new healing abilities. The problem with that, is that in order to level up further, I need to kill enemies, which is becoming harder, since all I got are healing abilities. Any tips?
You will have access to the dungeon finder system at level 15. Default key to bring up the menu will be “i”. When you join, it will place you in a queue until 4 other players are found for your group, at which point it will teleport you to the dungeon.
Be aware that most people running dungeons at lower leve are seasoned vets trying to level an alt character, and will expect you to be as well. Be sure to tell them you’re new to the game to eliminate a lot of confusion and frustration on both your, and your group’s end.
You can play with your friends right now! With some restrictions of course.
-You are not allowed to initiate the group invite, somebody with an active subscription will have to invite you.
-The only friends you can whisper are friends that you have added as a character. Battle tag and RealID friends will not show up for you.
You can also try out PvP in the form of a battleground. Same as with the Dungeon finder tool, with the difference being that you open the menu with “H” as the default key.
Paying for a subscription will get you access to all of the game’s content right up to BFA. Meaning you will be able to level up to 110 and play all content at or below that level.
Buying BFA will get you access to the most current content.
If you’re playing as resto, then yes, MOST of your abilities will be related to healing. However, you will also get access to a few basic casted damage dealing abilities, as well as limited skills in your shapeshift forms. You should already have your Bear form, so check your spellbook for anything that says bear form required when you hover above the ability in your spell book.
At level 20 you should also pick up Cat form, which again, offers another couple abilities for you.
As for abilities in general, when you’re looking at your spellbook, abilities that you haven’t learned yet will also be listed in it, and tell you at what level you will learn them. They might not always automatically drop down to your action bar when you learn it, so be sure to check your spell book from time to time.
Good luck, and let us know if you come across any more questions!
The game gets better as you level with more skills, content, zone choices, much better graphics, etc. You are currently playing in zones from 2004.
I recently leveled my druid from 1-120. I suggest you use the balance and feral dps specilizations in the open world. Try balance first it’s easier to play than feral. They do a lot more damage than resto so you will level faster. Almost everyone plays more than one spec on their characters.
You can change specialization by hitting N, and also select talents on the talents tab. Don’t forget to pick a talent for each spec at level 15!
I recommend using the icy veins druid class guide now so you don’t form bad habits. Icy veins is very popular and there is a guide for each of the four druid specs.
I play the dps specs in the open world and the resto healer spec in dungeons. If you queue as a healer, you usually only wait 0-2 minutes to get in a dungeon. If you queue as a dps spec (feral or balance), you typically wait 5-20 minutes to get in.
If you decide that you definitely like healing the best, you could level all the way in dungeons and skip most of the questing. Dungeons are as fast or faster exp than questing and you get better gear (blue). I would say “first time” at the start of dungeons If you are healing. I don’t think you need to say that if your dps.
Lastly, if you buy BFA they give you a free level 110 boost so you can start BFA immediately.
I posted this for someone a few weeks ago. If your bored now, it doesn’t mean you would be bored in BFA. It’s a different experience with a massive amount of additional content. There are some advantages to starting at 110 in BFA.
The action is in the current content. Better graphics, sound, topography, high populations,
Level 120 End game systems, raids, world quests and bosses, warfronts, island expeditions, zone invasions, mythic + dungeons, Skill customization and modification via azerite gear and neck essences. Many think raids and mythic + dungeons are the best PvE content.
You’ll make a lot of gold.
You can buy Account wide heirloom gear for a 50% exp bonus to use on other characters. The gear level increases as you level. This will increase leveling speed for your fresh 1-120 leveling characters.
Almost every WoW player has several characters. There is no shame in skipping 1-110 on your first, and then leveling 1-120 on alts later or simultaneously.
Make a promise to yourself that you will level another character from 1-120. In fact, you need a 110-120 char to unlock allied races. Allied races start at Level 20 and you must level them From 20 if you want their heritage armor. Have you looked at the allied races? two more are coming in dec/Jan.
Your alts will start with 140+ bag slots (four 30 slot deep sea bags plus backpack) and be able to buy whatever they want funded with gold from your 120.
You can get several cool mounts (ground and flying) on your 120. Mounts are account wide so your fresh characters will be able to use them starting at Level 20.
As a first time player of the game, I would highly recommend against using a boost. Enjoy the experience, and use your time leveling to learn the basics of the game.
Even if it gets you into current content where you can enjoy all the perks that Anacrussys mentioned, none of that is worth it if you don’t understand the basics, and get fatigued from trying to learn those, as well as being bombarded by learning the end game systems at the same time.
Take your time. End game will always be there waiting, and when you do finally make it there, the boost is always waiting as well to use on another character.
I offered the BFA 110 boost idea because he said he is already bored of the game (might quit). Blizzard gives the boosts so new and old players can jump right into current content. They can easily learn the WoW basics and their class leveling from 110-120. I would advise anyone wanting to boost to first level a few chars to 25ish, and also make some 110 trial chars. That said, most new players level their first character from scratch, and that’s a good idea.
If you’re bored of your starting zone (which is depopulated due to an event that took place at the end of last expansion, turning it into an instanced “legacy” zone only accessible by newly created Night Elves), head down to Darnassus and take the boat to Stormwind City. From there, you’ll have access to a variety of different zones on the Eastern Kingdoms continent, and will see at least some other players around.
My recommendation would be to quest as Balance spec rather than Restoration spec, and only switch to Resto for dungeons and other group content. You can switch freely between specs at any time, and as the spellcaster spec, Balance (Boomkin) has similar stat priorities to Resto early in the game. This will give you access to a wider variety of offensive spells when you’re in Boomkin spec, while still allowing you to be Resto when it counts.
I realize that, and it is a legit suggestion. I wasn’t trying to bust your chops or anything, and apologize if it came off that way. I just feel it’s important to offer the counter argument to the boost option whenever you suggest it at all. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen regret posts over the years, or talked to people in game who are ready to quit just because they can’t get a grip on the game after jumping right in.
There’s nothing wrong with suggesting the boost, it’s just that you listed all the bonuses without giving the warning that every new player should consider with it as well.
